Job Description

African Network for the prevention and Protection against Child Abuse and Neglect (ANPPCAN) –   Ethiopia is a Local Civil Society Organization re-registered with the Federal Agency for Civil Society Organizations under registration number 0385 and working on Child Protection. It is one of the oldest Child Protection Organization in Ethiopia and is implementing different programs in different parts of Ethiopia in collaboration with donor partners and government stakeholders. ANPPCAN-Ethiopia is planning to implement an a project focusing on Emergency Response and Rehabilitation of victims affected by the recent conflict in collaboration with Terre des Hommes Netherlands (TdH NL) in Woldia Town, North Wollo Zone of Amhara region. ANPPCAN-Ethiopia is therefore, looking for competent project staffs who are well experienced in implementing and managing emergency response and post recovery programs. Hence, ANPPCAN- Ethiopia invites interested applicants who fulfill the requirements indicated below to apply for the following position.

Job Summary

 The Child Protection Officer will provide technical leadership on gender based violence prevention and response programming within the organizations emergency response and rehabilitation programs.  Specifically, provide sound and current capacity building and technical support on child abuse prevention, mitigation and response to staff, partners and community members.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Implement Child protection activities in consultation with the project coordinator and other staff of the organization
  • Provide technical support in mainstreaming child protection activities:
  • Assess the presence of application of the child protection and safeguarding guiding principles and basic capacity to respond to the needs of abused children in the program areas
  • Coordinate with government, local and international NGOs and other stakeholders to ensure holistc support for child protection activities of the organization.
  • Builds the capacity of the actors in other sectors to respond to the needs of volnurable children
  • Support local actors to undertake robust community outreach activities on child protection, prevention, mitigation and response.
  • Train project staff in tools for effective child protection and their responsibilities in PSEA (Protection from sexual exploitation and abuse), including compliance with confidentiality and data security protocols
  • Provide on the on-the-job training, guidance and support for staff and partners on child protection and need based responses.
  • Support local actors to facilitate safe and confidential referrals for GBV survivors.
  • Actively participate in Child Protection working groups at all levels
  • Support the strengthening/establishment of local and regional level Child protection working groups where there are none
  • Prepare and submit monthly, quarterly and yearly project plans and reports to the Project Coordinator
  • Do other assingnments given by his/her supervisor (s)

Terms of Employment: One year Contract with high possibility of extension

Job Requirements

Qualifications: Education/Knowledge/Technical Skills and Experience

Minimum Qualification required:

  • Bachelor’s degree (holder) in Psychology, Social Work, Social Gender, or related fields;

Experience:

  • At least 3 years’ experience in managing a Child Prtection Projects

Preferred:

  • Masters Degree in Psychology, Social Work, Social Gender, or related disciples or certificates; additional experience in child protection programming is desired but not essential.

 Technical Skills & Abilities:

  • Professional experience related to child prevention and response in conflict and post conflict settings and skills in undertaking conflict analysis;
  • Knowledge of international humanitarian standards for Child protection, prevention, and response;
  • Solid experience in training and capacity building experience, particularly using participatory approaches and methods in for training related to different components of child protection  programming;
  • Experience with developing and implementing child protection programmes, particularly monitoring and evaluation;
