THE WORK AT THE FOUNDATION
We are currently in an exciting period at the Mastercard Foundation as we intensify the implementation of the Young Africa Works strategy, aiming to empower 30 million young people throughout Africa to access dignified and fulfilling employment.
To ensure the Foundation’s accessibility to our partners and program participants, we have established offices in Rwanda, Kenya, Ghana, Senegal, Ethiopia, Nigeria, and Uganda. These offices provide strong in-country support for the implementation of Young Africa Works. We collaborate with governments, the private sector, educators, and other funders to enhance the quality of education and vocational training, equip young individuals with the necessary skills for the workforce, expand access to financial services for entrepreneurs and small businesses, and facilitate connections between job seekers and meaningful employment opportunities.

THE OPPORTUNITY
Reporting to the Head, EdTech Ecosystem, Center for Innovative Teaching and Learning (CITL), the Lead, EdTech Ecosystem will be responsible for supporting partner Tech Hubs to implement the Mastercard Foundation EdTech Fellowship program and to provide technical support and guidance to partner Tech Hubs and to EdTech Fellows in identifying and developing EdTech enabled solutions to improve learning outcome for the African learners. This role engages high-level officials in public and private institutions.
The successful candidate will be based in any of our offices in Africa (Ethiopia, Nigeria, Senegal, Ghana, Rwanda, Kenya, or Uganda)
WAYS YOU CAN CONTRIBUTE
- Contribute to ongoing Centre for Innovative Teaching & Learning (CITL) strategy development and evolution.
- Provide support and guidance to the Tech Hubs and EdTech Fellows (current and alumni).
- Enable and facilitate collaboration and partnerships across partner EdTech Fellows.
- Act as a resource to Tech Hubs, EdTech entrepreneurs, and other implementation partners.
- Support the development of the partnerships necessary to catalyze the Edtech ecosystem in Africa.
- Provide perspective and expertise on emerging issues and trends in Ed Tech space to the EdTech partners.
- Ensure the capture of data and learnings and ensure they are shared and contribute to the overall knowledge of the EdTech ecosystem.
- Ensure alignment and foster partnership with other Foundation departments and units, especially within Education and Transitions.
- Represent the Foundation at high-level regional education and skills development and technology forums.
- Build a culture of learning, evidence building and knowledge sharing in EdTech across Africa.
- Engage key thought leaders in the EdTech field to increase the Foundation’s knowledge base and communicate progress and lessons learned.
- Stay on top of developments in the EdTech space – new concepts, key partner, new information being generated, policy movements, important upcoming events, etc.
WHO YOU ARE
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Education, Technology, or related fields; or equivalence professional experience.
- At least 12 years of experience, including a minimum of 5 years in a supervisory role.
- Experience and expertise in supporting networks and partnerships in education, EdTech, innovation, and teaching and learning.
- Experience effectively engaging and collaborating with high-level government officials, key partners, media, business leaders and other network influencers.
- Experience supporting multi-country initiatives.
- Experience working with startup environments and supporting startup companies.
- Experience with public speaking at high-level conferences and other forums, including media interaction.
- Formal media training would be an asset.
- Excellent strategic capability and ability to plan and deliver complex initiatives.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to articulate information to various constituents across cultures.
- Excellent knowledge of key issues, emerging trends, and barriers in education and technology integration and a strong understanding of education policy and practice across Africa.
- Demonstrated commitment to the Mastercard Foundation’s values and vision.
