TOR for Experienced Trainers and Business Coaches
For strengthening Resilience of Disaster Affected Communities through Durable Solutions project in
Oromia and Somali Region
Reach for Change is a non-profit non-governmental international organization with its headquarters in Stockholm, Sweden. The organization is operational in 11 countries across the globe out of which three countries are in Africa. Reach for Change was registered in Ethiopia as a foreign organization in 2015 with registration number 3419 with the aim to positively impact the lives of young women and children in Ethiopia by building the capacity of local social entrepreneurs.
This Project with the support of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), aims to bolster the resilience of disaster-affected communities in the Oromia and Somali regions of Ethiopia through targeted off-farm livelihood activities. The complex humanitarian landscape, characterized by climate change impacts, conflicts, and economic hardships, has severely affected vulnerable populations, particularly internally displaced Peoples (IDPs), women, and youth. Reach for Change (RFC) plans to provide entrepreneurial training and enhance access to financial resources for these groups, empowering them to launch small-scale businesses. This initiative aligns with the shared objective of improving socio-economic standards and facilitating durable solutions for communities facing displacement, thereby supporting their integration or return.
Purpose
The selected Trainers/ Coaches will deliver high-quality training sessions tailored to the needs of adult learners, accommodating varying literacy levels among participants after a Training of Trainers (ToT) provided by the RFC experts. In addition, they will support group businesses with tailored business coaching for off-farm SMEs. The training and coaching will focus on key areas such as financial management, business development, marketing, and sustainability practices on off-farm livelihood diversification.
Objective
The objective is to train a total of 200 women and youth business owners and 15 youth and women group businesses across seven woredas: three in Oromia (Gela, Darera Arba, and Ganda Buno) and four in Somali (Awbare, Kebribeyah, Erer, and Gode).
Scope of work Training Delivery:
- Attend a 3-day Training of Trainers (ToT) provided by RFC experts.
- Develop a comprehensive training approach and schedule.
- Conduct four half-day training sessions per group in coordination with the RFC Team.
- Ensure that all training materials are culturally relevant and linguistically appropriate for participants.
Expected outputs/Deliverables:
- Coaching Session Plans: Custom session plans outlining the topics to be covered, objectives, and methodologies for each coaching session.
- Coaching Materials: Development of training materials and resources tailored to the needs of the participants, including handouts and guides.
- Coaching Sessions: Facilitation of a periodic number of coaching sessions for each business group, focusing on business models, sustainability practices, and financial access.
- Linkage with Microfinance Institutions: Reports on the linkage sessions conducted with microfinance institutions (MFIs) and the outcomes of these sessions.
- Progress Reports: Regular progress reports evaluating the impact of coaching on the business groups, including feedback from participants and measurable outcomes.
Responsibilities and Activities Training Activities:
- Coordinate training dates with the RFC Team.
- Deliver training based on approved methodologies.
- Evaluate training effectiveness and gather feedback from participants.
- Prepare and submit detailed reports on training sessions conducted.
Training Activities:
- Review the desk reviews and interviews assessments done by the Impact team to understand their specific coaching needs.
- Facilitating coaching sessions focused on business and financial models, Business development, financial management, marketing, and access to finance.
- Offering tailored support based on the results of the coaching needs assessment, ensuring that the guidance provided meets the specific challenges faced by each group
- Assisting the women and youth-led business groups in creating access to financial resources and understanding available financial products.
- With the RFC team, helping participants create linkage with MFIs by preparing to present their business status in linkage sessions with the MFIs and other financing institutions.
- Monitoring the effectiveness of coaching sessions and providing feedback on participants’ progress.
Coaching and Training arrangements
Reach for change will have an introduction and induction session for the selected coaches, In which the coaches will be introduced to the project, introduce the groups, support materials specific to the project, and the need assessment results of each group he/she is assigned to.
About You
Required Qualifications and Experience
Education
- Have a minimum of a first degree in business administration, management, finance, or a related field.
- Certification in Entrepreneurship training or Off-farm Business support is an advantage.
Experience
- Minimum of three years of experience in conducting/ Facilitating business development training and workshops.
- Must have good knowledge of Business model development, Business plan Formulation and operation management.
- Must have experience in the culture and language of the areas.
- Proven track record in running MSMEs or building capacity in early-stage enterprises.
- Expertise in the current policies and procedures of business sectors in Ethiopia.
- Understanding of the MicroFinance Iinstitution’s systems.
- Skills in value analysis, and assessment of demand and supply chain
- Ability to travel to specific woreda mentioned above.
- Demonstrated experience in developing gender-sensitive educational/training programs.
- Familiarity with the socio-economic conditions in the Oromia and Somali regions.
- Gender-sensitive educational/training programs in the context of an idea or early-stage entrepreneur.
- Have relevant experience in advisory and coaching roles for businesses specifically on off-farm businesses.
- Expertise in supporting SMEs and startup firms in financial & operational management system development.
