Job Description

Bopinc is looking for a structured, proactive team member with proven agricultural experience, who can contribute to an Agri-Food Innovation program in Ethiopia funded by a leading international donor.

The programme

The Beyond Farming Collective (BFC), led by Bopinc, focuses on strengthening agri-food industry organisations (AFIOs) in order to drive inclusive agricultural transformation. This pioneering program is being implemented in three strategic markets including Ethiopia, Nigeria and Tanzania.

The programme has three building blocks including:

  • Leadership Academy
  • Accelerator Fund
  • Collective Community

Responsibilities 

  • Lead implementation of BFC in Ethiopia, reporting to the project manager, managing a team of two and working in coordination with the global project team and two implementing partners.
  • Manage relationships with leaders from 10 AFIOs in Ethiopia, closely monitoring implementation of accelerator investments, providing strategic guidance where needed and coordinating activities and reporting with the global BFC team.
  • Provide technical assistance to AFIO leadership and management on business modelling and/or marketing and distribution strategies to improve the viability and success of accelerator investments. Investments range from smallholder farmer access to improved inputs, aggregation, storage and processing facilities and market information platforms.
  • Organise and lead events, including the annual Leadership Academy, that convene key stakeholders in the agriculture sector, government, and private sector.
  • Contribute to writing reports and publications for external stakeholders, including the donor.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or masters (preferred) degree in agriculture, development, economics or business administration;
  • At least 5 years experience managing agricultural development/transformation projects in Ethiopia funded by international donors;
  • Experience working in the private sector, developing business models and/or marketing and distribution strategies;
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and manage partnerships and work with diverse stakeholders including government, development organisations, private sector and smallholder farmers;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and local language(s);
  • Ability to lead and facilitate engaging workshops with diverse stakeholders;
  • Experience conducting agriculture-related research;
  • Experience in agri-food policy/advocacy is a plus;
  • Ethiopian national
