Job Description
Background:
Ethiopian Women Lawyers’ Association has been established at the federal level in 1995 by Women lawyers and re-registered as Local Organization in accordance with the Civil Society Organization. It has been working for more than 30 years to promote women’s social, economic, political and legal rights to help women exercise their constitutional and other rights.
The aim of the association is to promote equal participation of women in all sectors and to prevent sexual violence against women and create a safe environment for women through its three programs: Legal Research and Advocacy, Public Education and Capacity Building, and Free Legal Aid service.
The association is head quartered in Addis Ababa and has opened its regional offices in seven regions and one city administration namely Adama, Hawassa, Bahir Dar, Gambella, Asosa, Jigjiiga, Semera regions and city administration of Dire Dawa. In order to make the service accessible to all, the association is working to continue its service in the zones and woredas under its regional and city administration branches and has so far established 56 volunteer committee centers across the country. Besides, it has established a hotline service (7711) which operates in 3 local languages: Amharic, Afan Oromo and Tigrigna.
Objective:
The objective of this consultancy is to develop a comprehensive communication strategy for EWLA that will enable the organization to more effectively communicate its mission, activities, and impact to a range of target audiences.
Scope of Work:
- The selected consultant will be expected to undertake the following tasks:
- Conduct a communication audit of EWLA’s current communication channels, materials, and practices. This should include an assessment of the organization’s visibility, messaging, and engagement with key stakeholders.
- Identify EWLA’s key communication objectives, target audiences, and priority messages based on the organization’s strategic priorities.
- Develop a multi-channel communication strategy that outlines recommendations for strengthening EWLA’s communications, including:
- Branding and visual identity guidelines
- Development of communication materials (e.g. fact sheets, newsletters, social media content)
- Stakeholder engagement and media relations plan
- Digital communication strategy, including website and social media
- Implementation plan with timeline and roles/responsibilities
- Provide training and capacity building support to EWLA staff on implementing the communication strategy.
Deliverables:
- Communication audit report with key findings and recommendations
- Communication strategy document, including an implementation plan
- Communication materials templates and guidelines
- Training session for EWLA staff on implementing the communication strategy
Timeline:
The consultancy is expected to be completed within 1 months from the start date.
Application Requirement

About You
- At least 5 years of work experience in development of organizational documents such as Communication strategy, strategic plan and different Manuals
- Demonstrated experience in developing communication strategies for non-profit organizations, particularly in the field of women’s rights and empowerment
- Strong understanding of the communication landscape and best practices in Ethiopia
- Excellent writing, editing, and graphic design skills
- Experience in providing capacity building support to organizational staff
- Fluency in English and Amharic is a strong advantage
