Job Purpose

The Cashier will be responsible for managing day-to-day cash transactions at the project site. This includes handling petty cash, ensuring proper documentation and recording of payments, and supporting field finance and admin operations.

Major Responsibilities

  • Office-Based Responsibilities (Jinka Coordination Office)

Tasks performed primarily at the Jinka coordination office:

  • Manage petty cash transactions and maintain daily cash book.
  • Ensure all financial transactions are properly authorized, documented, and filed.
  • Prepare payment and deposit vouchers, cheques, and related financial forms.
  • Reconcile physical cash with records and submit periodic financial reports.
  • Maintain accurate filing systems for finance and administrative documentation.
  • Support procurement and administrative processes in coordination with the finance team.
  • Coordinate with the bank for deposits and withdrawals.
  • Assist in stock and asset management and maintain inventory registers.
  • Receive, issue, and track supplies and materials using standard documentation.

Field-Based Responsibilities (Project Implementation Sites)

Tasks that require travel to field locations and working closely with field teams:

  • Support the implementation of cash-based activities in remote and underserved areas.
  • Handle advance settlements and expense reports from field staff.
  • Ensure timely financial documentation and collection from field operations.
  • Provide logistical support during distributions and mobile outreach programs.
  • Monitor the use of supplies and ensure accountability for distributed materials.
  • Liaise with field staff to manage stock records and ensure accurate usage reporting.

Community and Stakeholder Interaction Environment

Tasks involving external collaboration and public engagement:

  • Assist with community-level documentation during program activities (e.g., signing beneficiary sheets, issuing receipts).
  • Collect and document financial contributions (if applicable) and issue acknowledgments.
  • Work in coordination with government partners and community leaders on logistics and finance-related matters.
  • Support awareness and compliance with financial procedures among community partners.

Other responsibilities

  • Perform tasks assigned by the project finance and Administration Officer/Expert

About You

Required Professional Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years (Diploma holders) or 3 years (BA holders) of relevant work experience in a similar position, preferably in NGO or project environments.

Required Education, Training, License, Registration, and Certification

  • BA degree or Diploma in Accounting, Business Management, Marketing Management, Supply Chain Management, or other related fields.

Preferred Knowledge and Qualifications

  • Strong command of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, etc.) and ability to adopt new digital systems.
  • Demonstrated commitment to HRF’s mission, vision, and core values.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team, prioritize tasks, and manage pressure and deadlines.
  • Willingness to travel and work in remote and challenging field environments.
  • Knowledge of humanitarian and accountability standards.
  • Prior experience in NGO cash management and field financial operations is an advantage.
  • Computer literacy is highly desirable.

Working Environment/Conditions

  • The position is based in Jinka, South Omo Zone.
  • Frequent travel to field implementation areas is required.
  • Field conditions may be demanding and involve difficult terrain and limited facilities.
