GIZ-QEP II supports Ethiopia’s efforts to promote the inclusion of refugees and internally displaced persons (IDPs) by advancing a development-oriented and long-term approach that also benefits host communities. Implemented on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), and in close cooperation with the Ethiopian Ministry of Labour and Skills (MoLS), the programme leverages GIZ’s extensive experience in vocational education in Ethiopia.

QEP II focuses on creating inclusive vocational training and employment opportunities for refugees, IDPs, and Ethiopians in Addis Ababa, Somali Region, Benishangul-Gumuz Region, and Tigray Region, thereby contributing to both social cohesion and sustainable development in displacement-affected communities.

Overall, Role Purpose:

The intern will support the implementation of activities related to vocational guidance and counseling (VGC), employment promotion, and social cohesion in selected public TVET colleges. The role includes providing direct support to VGC units, assisting with coordination and delivery of services to trainees, and contributing to effective stakeholder engagement. The intern will also support administrative tasks and contribute to data collection, documentation, and the monitoring of interventions.

Main Tasks:

1. Trainee Orientation & Guidance

  • Support the facilitation of workshop visits for newly arrived trainees before registration.
  • Assist in organizing orientation sessions for newly registered trainees.
  • Provide basic vocational guidance and help trainees choose appropriate departments.

2. Provide support to beneficiaries on the transition to entry level employment at the IEPP (Inclusive Employment Promotion Program) companies

  • Support the implementation of IEPP programs for graduating trainees.
  • Help identify suitable enterprises for and maintain contact during the placement.

3. Social Cohesion & Psychosocial Support

  • Assist in implementing social cohesion and psychosocial support measures in collaboration with TVET staff.
  • Support referral mechanisms to social service providers.
  • Facilitate engagement with service providers offering psychosocial counseling to refugees, IDPs, and host communities
  • Record and track internship participation and outcomes.

4. Capacity Building & Events

  • Assist in organizing capacity-building training, workshops, and teacher support activities.
  • Support the implementation of TVET-related events such as enterprise visits, job fairs, and career days

5. Employment & Entrepreneurship Support

• Provide information and coaching to graduates on job application processes (e.g., CV writing, interviews).

• Help maintain relationships with local employers and identify job or internship opportunities.

• Support initiatives promoting entrepreneurship and small business development.

6. Monitoring & Reporting

• Assist in monitoring and evaluation activities within the TVET colleges.

• Help maintain and update the trainees’ database and assist in preparing periodic reports.

7. Administrative & Coordination Support

• Participate in team meetings and take minutes when required.

• Assist in administrative and logistical tasks, including procurement, workshop facilitation, and finance-related coordination.

• Support gender mainstreaming and gender alliance activities at the college level.

About You

Qualifications and Competencies:

  • A degree in Psychology, Social Work, or a related Social Science field.
  • Strong interest in vocational training, youth development, and career guidance.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Basic knowledge of counseling principles or experience working with young people is a plus.
  • Familiarity with MS Office and digital tools for data entry and reporting.
  • Commitment to inclusivity, gender equality, and working in multicultural environments.
  • Fluency in English and local languages (as applicable to the region).
