To sustain its expanding portfolio of strategic initiatives, IPHC-E is seeking a proactive and strategic Senior Associate to anchor key initiatives focused on strategy formulation, analytics, project delivery, and implementation excellence.

A Dynamic Opportunity to Lead and Drive Transformative Health Initiatives

The Senior Associate plays a pivotal role within the Institute, overseeing strategic projects and initiatives to ensure high-quality execution and impactful outcomes. This role demands a professional with strategic foresight, project management proficiency, and a deep understanding of health systems, particularly within low- and middle-income country contexts. As a Senior Associate, you will be responsible for delivering strong analytical rigor, engaging effectively with stakeholders, and driving the success of high-impact health projects. Additionally, you will support senior leadership decision-making and foster cross-functional collaboration, all while contributing to the advancement of the Institute’s strategic objectives.

Key Responsibilities

A. Strategic Leadership & Project Management

  • Lead and manage strategic initiatives across critical thematic areas (e.g., PHC financing, workforce strategy, service delivery optimization, digital health, etc.).
  • Oversee the full project lifecycle, including scoping, planning, resource allocation, execution, stakeholder engagement, monitoring, evaluation, and reporting.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure effective and timely delivery of programs.
  • Work with the wider Programme team to plan and oversee implementation of initiatives 1.
  • Support on contract management and reporting.

B. Technical Analysis & Insight Generation

  • Drive structured problem-solving, policy analysis, data modelling, and strategic insights to inform PHC system transformation.
  • Provide expert analysis and recommendations in PHC program design and planning.
  • Produce and present clear, insightful, and visually engaging reports, presentations, policy briefs, and decision-making tools for senior stakeholders.

C. Stakeholder Engagement & Representation

  • Engage proactively and strategically with senior government officials, development partners, technical experts, and internal teams.
  • Represent the Institute at national and international forums, workshops, and strategic dialogues.
  • Maintain accurate records of stakeholder communications and status updates on shared systems.

D. Team Leadership & Capacity Building

  • Supervise, mentor, and build capacity of junior staff (e.g., Analysts and Associates), ensuring high-quality outputs and professional development

About You

The ideal candidate for the Senior Associate position will hold a Master’s degree in Public Health, Public Policy, Economics, Business Administration, Global Health, relevant quantitative fields or a closely related discipline. Candidates with a Bachelor’s degree and substantial additional professional experience may also be considered.

  • Professional Experience: A minimum of 6–8 years of progressive experience in strategy, analytics, project delivery, or similar roles. Demonstrated success in management consulting, public sector advisory, or international development is highly desirable.
  • Sector Expertise: Proven ability to lead and deliver complex projects within the health sector or across multiple sectors; experience working with Ethiopian or comparable LMIC health systems is particularly valued.
  • Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills: Exceptional capability in analytical reasoning, strategic thinking, and resolving complex challenges.
  • Project Management: Advanced organizational skills with a proven track record managing multiple priorities and producing high-quality outcomes under tight deadlines.
  • Communication: Outstanding written and verbal communication skills in both English and Amharic. Additional proficiency in other regional languages is an asset.
  • Collaboration and Leadership: Strong interpersonal skills, stakeholder management expertise, and a demonstrated ability to provide leadership and collaborate effectively within teams.
  • Technical Proficiency: Advanced skills in Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel, and Word are required. Familiarity with data visualization tools or analytics software will be considered a strong advantage.
