Background
Addis Economic Research (AER) is a research consulting firm based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. AER is actively engaged in undertaking a wide range of economic research aimed at informing better policy and decision-making. AER provides three major services: research and data analysis, survey management, and capacity building. To date, AER has completed various studies for a broad spectrum of national and international stakeholders. AER is composed of professional economists and social science experts with extensive experience in research and policy advisory roles.
Duration: One year and renewable annually depending on the performance

Scope of work
The junior Accountant will be responsible for a crucial role in overseeing and managing the financial activities of the organization. This include ensuring compliance with accounting principles and regulator requirements.
Key responsibilities for the Junior Accountant include:
- Prepare withholding tax, VAT, employee income tax, and pension summaries for monthly tax declarations. Additionally, prepare monthly purchase and sales summaries on the ERCA online system (TASS).
- Follow purchase advance settlements with the respective purchaser and prepare a balance report monthly.
- Raise Withholding Tax receipts for the purchase of goods and services.
- Create a Petty Cash Payment Voucher (PCPV) and Cheque Payment Voucher (CPV) on ERP in a timely manner.
- Raise Cash Receipt Vouchers and Follow-up deposits to the bank on a daily basis.
- Raise Credit Sales Invoices on ERP in a timely manner.
- Facilitate training and organize logistics in collaboration with other staff members.
- Liaise with crucial government offices focal persons and other partner.
- Actively engage in personal development activities
- Prepare and review financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
- Analyse financial data and provide insights and recommendations to management for improving financial performance.
- Ensure compliance with accounting principles, standards, and regulations.
- Oversee the preparation and filing of tax returns, ensuring compliance with tax laws and regulations.
- Manage and reconcile general ledger accounts, ensuring accuracy and completeness of financial records.
- Monitor and analyse financial transactions and reports, identifying and resolving discrepancies or issues.
- Develop and implement accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure financial integrity.
- Collaborate with internal and external auditors during financial audits and reviews.
- Stay updated on changes in accounting standards and regulations and implement necessary changes to ensure compliance.
- Prepare monthly employee salary/payroll as per the company procedure.
- Meet regular plan and report deadlines.
- Comply with the company policies and procedures.
About You
- Minimum of BA degree in accounting
- 1- 2 years of experience in accounting
- Age should not be more than 30 years old at the time of application.
- An internship and a few months of experience in research and related area is preferred.
- Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and able to manage tasks independently.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are required, along with the ability to adapt and improve processes.
- Good communication skills, work well under pressure, and collaborate effectively with team members. Fluency in English and Amharic is required; knowledge of other local languages is an asset.
