Project Summary
Amref is currently planning to implement a project named RELIEF – Resilience, Emergency, Lifesaving Interventions for the Ethiopian population in a situation of Fragility in South Wollo (Amhara) funded by AICS (Italian Development Cooperation)
The overall objective of the project is to contribute to a rapid and effective humanitarian response in Ethiopia, improving the living conditions of vulnerable families in camps for internally displaced persons and host communities in the South Wollo Zone region, Amhara Region
The project is mainly focus on the following specific objectives: Provide safe access to integrated and inclusive basic services (Health and Nutrition), Increase Access to adequate WASH services and practice and Strength protection and socio-economic support mechanisms for the most vulnerable sections of the population, with a focus on improving the legal and clinical management of cases of sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) and psychosocial assistance for IDPs and host community
The project is mainly targeted IDPs and Host communities with a special focus on vulnerable groups like PWDs, women, girls, nutritionally affected children, pregnant women and others in South Wollo zone in five IDPs: Gerado (Dessie zuria),Degan (Kalu Woreda), Kutaber woreda (China camp), Worebabu woreda – (Bistema/Budeta camp) and Argoba special woreda (Medina camp, and host communities surrounding the IDPS. The project will be implemented for 18 months from June 16/2025 -December 31/ 2026
The Project Assistant (WASH ) will be based in Dessie town, and report to the Project manager
Job Summary
The Project assistant is responsible for supporting the implementation of the Project entitled: ‘’Resilience, Emergency, Life-Saving Intervention for the Ethiopia population in situation of fragile in South Wollo (Amhara)”. The consortium project will focus on multi-sectoral humanitarian intervention that includes WASH, nutrition, and health and Protection /GBV which aims to avail an integrated life-saving and resilience intervention to internally displaced peoples (IDPs) and host communities.
S/he will support the implementation of WASH activities with the guidance and under the direct supervision of the of the Emergency project officer. This position is based in South Wollo (Dessie)with frequent travel to operational districts and IDP sites to implement the activities in collaboration with the district DRM, Health offices, and other community structures.
The Project assistant is responsible for fully supporting the implementation of the Project entitled: ‘’Resilience, Emergency, Life-Saving Intervention for the Ethiopia population in situation of fragile in South Wollo (Amhara)”. In-line manager: The Project assistant will be abased at filed office and will directly reports to the Emergency Project officer
Duties and responsibilities: The Project assistant will have the following duties and responsibilities:
Developing project activity work plan

- Support the preparation of an implementation work plan for WASH activities
- Make sure the plan is in line with the project plan of the project officer and program manager by summiting for approval.
- Reviewing the implementation work plan on a timely and regular basis.
- Performing needs assessment (from the project beneficiaries).
- Collecting required data and information from the field activities
- Ensuring the availability of resources to timely implement the activities.
Ensuring the implementation of project activities

- Run and provide technical support for the implementation of WASH interventions
- Facilitate and support the cascading of WASH related trainings and awareness creation campaigns sessions and campaigns
- Generate WASH related best practice along with implementation of the project at community level and share to the Knowledge management coordinator.

- Facilitate implementation activities with supporting partners
- Develop/adopt relevant community-based materials to support field activities
- Facilitate required payment (Preparing schedule, payment sheet, attendance sheet, course event and other forms.)
- Timely report submitting as needed and regularly to the emergency project officer
Monitor and evaluate the program
- Support periodic review meetings with stakeholders
- Conducting site supportive supervision in collaboration with partners
- Ensuring the submission of timely and accurate reports.
Qualifications
Minimum requirements:
- Minimum Diploma in Environmental health or public health with experience in WASH emergency project implementation.
- At least 1 to 2 years of relevant work experience in humanitarian settings
- Experience in emergency interventions (WASH) in affected communities (IDPs)
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; Experience working collaboratively with teams from diverse backgrounds.
- Basic computer knowledge words, excel and others. Some software analysis is advantage
- Strong presentation, reporting, and communication skills; Ability to work effectively under pressure
- Adequate knowledge of Spoken and written English and Amharic language
