Job Description

Ethio Wetlands and Natural Resources Association (EWNRA) is a non-political, non-religious, non-profit civil society organization focused on sustainable natural resource management and livelihood improvement in Ethiopia. With funding from the Royal Norwegian Embassy through Farm Africa, EWNRA is launching a short-term pilot project titled “Supporting Ethiopian Coffee Farmers for EUDR-Compliant Marketing (ECOM)” in Becho, Didu, and Halu woredas of Ilu Ababor Zone. To support project implementation, EWNRA is seeking qualified professionals for short-term in the following positions in the target areas.

Job title: Field data collectors

Quantity required: three (One professional will be hired for each of the three project woredas (Becho, Didu, and Halu).

Duty station: Oromia Region, Ilu Ababor Zone, Becho, Didu and Halu woredas

Duties and responsibilities

Under the supervision of and reporting to south west Ethiopia projects coordination office coordinator at Metu, the data collectors will have the following duties and responsibilities:

1. Data Collection and Verification

    1. Conduct field visits to coffee farms, cooperatives, and households to collect accurate and reliable data related to land use, coffee production, traceability, and supply chain practices.
    2. Use digital tools (such as mobile data collection apps) and/or paper-based surveys as required.
    3. Verify and cross-check data with farmers and cooperative records to ensure completeness and consistency.

2. Geolocation and Mapping Support

    1. Assist in collecting GPS coordinates of coffee plots and relevant land areas.
    2. Support field teams in mapping land boundaries and production areas in alignment with EUDR (EU Deforestation Regulation) requirements.

3. Farmer Engagement and Communication

    1. Liaise with coffee farmers, cooperative leaders, and local authorities to facilitate smooth data collection and build trust.
    2. Clearly explain the purpose of the project and the importance of EUDR compliance to farmers and stakeholders.

4. Data Entry and Reporting

    1. Enter collected data into designated systems or platforms accurately and in a timely manner.
    2. Prepare brief field reports summarizing progress, challenges, and observations.

5. Monitoring and Field Support

    1. Support monitoring of compliance-related indicators such as land use change, documentation practices, and cooperative-level record-keeping.
    2. Assist project teams in coordinating trainings, awareness sessions, or community meetings where needed.

6. Ethical and Confidential Conduct

    1. Maintain high standards of data integrity and confidentiality at all times.
    2. Ensure informed consent is obtained before collecting any personal or household data.

7. Logistical and Operational Support

    1. Coordinate field schedules and travel plans with the project team.
    2. Report equipment issues or logistical challenges to supervisors promptly.
    3. Perform any other duties as assigned by the Southwest Ethiopia Projects coordination office Coordinator at Metu, as needed to support project implementation.

Knowledge of local language is mandatory.

Terms of employment: The position is offered on a three-month contract basis, with the possibility of a two-month extension subject to satisfactory performance.

About You

Qualifications and Experience:

  • The ideal candidate should hold a Bachelor’s degree in Forestry, Natural Resource Management, Plant Science, Agronomy, or a closely related field from a recognized university or college. Recent graduates with no prior work experience are encouraged to apply.
