Job Description

MSD is a non-profit, civic society organization founded in 1999 to combat the HIV/AIDS epidemic. Since then, MSD works to strengthen the socio-economic development of the wider community, and the nation at large. Working with partners and stakeholders, MSD advance the voice of citizens and community structures in service delivery, identifying priority needs, provide support and services to target groups with education, skills and promote opportunity to get along with assets. Aligned to its vision, mission and strategic objectives, MSD has been working in different development, emergency and humanitarian endeavors including HIV Prevention, care and support, Orphan and vulnerable children (OCV) care and support, Sexual and Reproductive health (SRH),Family Planning (FP), Gender Based Violence (GBV), migration, child protection and environmental protection. Through these technical area and services, it reached different hard to reach target groups including early married girls, GBV survivor, OVCs, refugees, PLHA, commercial sex workers and their clients, waitresses, long truck drivers, CSOs, CBOs and the community. At community level, the organization works with community members and community based social service providing institutions, schools, health facilities, government line offices, marginalized groups and professional associations.

Position: Child Protection-Education Coordinator

Reports to: Program Director

Salary: Negotiable subject to organizational salary scale and project budget

Job Summary:

The Child Protection-Education Coordinator is responsible for planning, organizing, implementing, tracking progress, and reporting of the project that is going to be implemented in Debre Birhan town IDPs, Amhara Region, and managed with UNICEF.

Reporting to the Program Director, she/he will serve as a prime contact and be responsible for project planning and implementation; managing project staff and budget, coordination, and quality programming. She/he also liaises and represents the organization at different UN protection cluster meetings and platforms; establishes robust partnerships with regional and sub-regional government and community-level structures and other community partners.

II. Major Responsibilities and Tasks:

Job Responsibility #1: Program Planning and Implementation

  • Coordinate planning and implementation of the project across all implementation sites, ensuring alignment with strategic goals.
    • Follow up the day-to-day operations of the project activity in all sites , ensuring adherence to objectives, expected deliverables in a designated timeframe ;
    • Ensures that project operations are carried out in accordance with government, MSD and donor child protection policies and compliance requirements;
    • Monitor potential risks and challenges to project implementation, develop adaptive management strategies to reduce risks and responsive;
    • Build the capacity of project staffs and local key stakeholders on child protection and PSEA.
    • Support & ensure that all project staff have updated monthly & quarterly implementation plans;

Responsibility #2: Program Monitoring, Evaluation, and Reporting

  • Develop and implement monitoring and evaluation frameworks/plans to assess and track project progress, outcomes and effectiveness against the intended goal and objectives ;
    • In place a monitoring system to collect baseline and periodic data for tracking project performance and decision making;
    • Periodically conduct monitoring, JISS, review meeting with staff, regional and sub-regional stakeholders.
    • Undertake continuous data management, DQA per donor requirements and organization standards and guidelines;
    • Ensure quality of programming, in-time delivery of services
    • Prepares quarterly, biannual and annual financial and project performance reports of the project and submit to the organization and donor per the designated timeline.
    • Maintain project documents, lessons and innovations as part of knowledge management.

Responsibility #3: Staff Management

  • Provide capacity building training to project staffs on core humanitarian child protection and safeguarding standards and principles
    • Ensure that all project staffs and project are strictly adhering to child safeguarding policies and practices across all project sites;
    • Coach and mentor project staffs and provide technical supports to deliver quality of services to target beneficiaries.
    • Establish team work, effective communication and cross fertilize experiences between project staffs
    • Provides continued regular support to project officers, Social Service Workers (SSWs) & Case Workers (CWs)

Responsibility #4: Representation, Networking & Partnership

  • Establish robust partnership with local stakeholders, including government agencies, other NGOs, and community organizations, to enhance the CP project effectiveness;
    • Engage with community members and local authorities to promote understanding and support for child protection initiatives;
    • Represent the project and MSD and advocate for child rights and protection in all relevant forum, clusters and networks.

Responsibility #5: Financial Management

  • Prepares periodic program budget request and forecast in accordance to the schedule using the formats and deadlines to AO.
    • Ensures that the project assets are properly managed and safeguarded;
    • Ensures that the organization’s financial policies, procedures and guidelines are properly implemented and followed up by all staff;
    • Strictly monitor budget utilization and status using the regular BVA analysis.

Required Skills:

  • Planning and Report Writing, Communication, Quality Programming, Partnership and Networking, PCM, problem solving, and Adaptive management, Coordination, and Microsoft Office.

About You

III. Educational Qualifications:

Education and training

  • Degree (MA/BA) in Sociology, Social Psychology, Social Work, Public Health, Pedagogy, and Project Management field of studies;
  • Relevant certifications in Child Protection, Safeguarding, & PCM (e.g., CP training) has added value
  • Training in financial management is advantageous.

Work experiences

  • A minimum of 4/6-MA/BA years and above of relevant work experience;
  • Direct and proven work experiences in managing CP and the humanitarian, IDP, emergency setting are highly desirable ;
  • NGO setting work experiences are highly desirable/mandatory;
  • Experience working with vulnerable populations, particularly children, in IDP settings;
  • Conversant with safeguarding, PSEA, local child protection laws, policies, and practices;
