Background
MSD is a non-profit, civic society organization founded in 1999 to combat the HIV/AIDS epidemic. Since then, MSD works to strengthen the socio-economic development of the wider community, and the nation at large. Working with partners and stakeholders, MSD advance the voice of citizens and community structures in service delivery, identifying priority needs, provide support and services to target groups with education, skills, and promoting opportunities to get along with assets. Aligned to its vision, mission and strategic objectives, MSD has been working in different development, emergency and humanitarian endeavors including HIV Prevention, care and support, Orphan and vulnerable children (OCV) care and support, Sexual and Reproductive health (SRH), Family Planning (FP), Gender Based Violence (GBV), migration, child protection and environmental protection.
Through these technical area and services, it reached different hard to reach target groups including early married girls, GBV survivor, OVCs, refugees, PLHA, commercial sex workers and their clients, waitresses, long truck drivers, CSOs, CBOs and the community. At community level, the organization works with community members and community-based social service providing institutions, schools, health facilities, government line offices, marginalized groups and professional associations.
MSD is a child safe organization, and all successful applicants will be required to sign the PSEA, Child Safeguarding and Code of Conduct. The safety and well-being of children and at-risk adults are priorities of MSD. The organization provides a safe environment in all its programs and activities. About the Project:
The proposed project, “East African Migration Routes 2nd phase Project” will work along the East African Migration Routes develop policies and adequate organizational capacities to ensure
protection and enable self-reliance of children and youth in vulnerable displacement situations. The project will target vulnerable children (aged fewer than 18) on the move, including those at risk of undertaking unsafe migration. Specific attention will be given to the most vulnerable, those at risk of abuse and exploitation: girls and young women, unaccompanied and separated children, minors living or working in the street, trafficked children and youth, along with younger children and babies traveling with families.

Position Summary:
The position holder will provide comprehensive health care and case management services to unaccompanied migrant and trafficked children residing in the temporary shelter. She/he will be responsible also for assessing the medical needs of the children, providing direct nursing care, and coordinating with other health and social services to ensure the well-being of each child.
Key Role & Responsibilities:
1. Health risk Assessments and case management:
- Conduct thorough health risk assessments of all children upon admission and monitor their ongoing health needs.
- Refer children who require further support to the adjacent HFs for support
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed, and document all nursing interventions in accordance with established protocols.
Closely follow the health status of children and provide first aid and emergency care as needed.
2. Health Promotion and Education:
- Develop and implement health education programs tailored to the needs of the children, focusing on topics such as hygiene, nutrition, mental health, and preventive care.
- Offer training and guidance to shelter staff on essential health practices and procedures.
3. Coordination of Medical Services:
- Coordinate access to specialized medical care, including referrals to external healthcare providers and follow-up care for chronic conditions or infectious diseases.
- Work collaboratively with mental health professionals to address the psychological well-being of children, integrating medical and psychological care.
4. Monitoring and Documentation:
- Maintain accurate and confidential health records for each child, ensuring compliance with institutional policies and legal requirements.
- Monitor and report health trends or outbreaks within the shelter to the shelter management and relevant health authorities.
5. Collaboration and Teamwork:
- Collaborate with case managers, social workers, and other shelter staffs to develop comprehensive care plans for children.
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to discuss the health and well-being of each child and ensure coordinated care.
6. Emergency Preparedness:
- Prepare and implement plans for medical emergencies, including training staff on emergency response protocols.
- Ensure the shelter is well-stocked with medical supplies and that equipment is functional.
7. Advocacy and Support:
- Serve as an advocate for children’s health rights and needs within the shelter and the wider community.
- Provide emotional and psychological support, recognizing the traumatic experiences that many children may have faced.
About You
Qualifications:
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN), BSC Degree
Experience:
- Minimum of 4 years of nursing experience, preferably in emergency care, or working with vulnerable populations.
Skills:
- Strong clinical skills with the ability to perform comprehensive health assessments; excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills; familiarity with Safeguarding and child protection policies.
