Job Description
Job Purpose
The Business Unit Support Accountant is responsible for providing financial and accounting support to individual business units within the organization. This role ensures accurate recording of transactions, timely financial reporting, cost control, revenue protection, Fraud prevention, and budget compliance at the business unit level. The accountant will work closely with unit managers to support day-to-day operations and strategic financial planning.
Key Responsibilities
1. Financial Operations Support
- Assist business units in recording and reconciling revenue, expenses, and intercompany transactions
- Review and process purchase requests, supplier invoices, and petty cash reimbursements
- Ensure proper allocation of costs in accordance with company policies and chart of accounts
2. Reporting & Analysis
- Prepare monthly financial reports for assigned business units, including P&L, budget vs. actual, and variance analysis
- Highlight cost overruns, revenue shortfalls, and provide recommendations for corrective action
- Revenue protection and Fraud prevention
- Assist in tracking KPIs and operational metrics relevant to the unit’s financial performance
3. Budgeting & Forecasting
- Support business units in preparing budgets and forecasts in coordination with the FP&A team
- Monitor adherence to budget and flag material deviations for management review
- Participate in periodic budget reviews with unit heads
4. Compliance & Documentation
- Ensure all financial transactions comply with internal policies, accounting standards, and regulatory requirements
- Maintain proper documentation of financial activities at the unit level
- Assist with audits by providing requested documents and explanations for transactions
5. Process Improvement
- Identify inefficiencies in unit-level financial processes and propose improvements
- Work with finance and operations teams to implement automated or streamlined procedures
Contribute to the standardization of financial practices across business units
About You
Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or ACCA is an advantage)
- 2–4 years of accounting experience, preferably supporting multiple business units or branches
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles (GAAP/IFRS) and internal controls
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP, Dynamics) and MS Excel
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work closely with non-finance teams
