Job Description

Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI) is a non-profit organization dedicated to eliminating substandard housing and homelessness worldwide and established in 1976 in Atlanta, Georgia, USA, is active in more than 70 countries around the world. HFHI’s vision ‘a world where everyone has a decent place to live’ and mission is to promote sustainable development and adequate housing for all, by working in partnership with local people and organizations regardless of caste, race, ethnicity, or religion. Habitat is working to empower people in the world’s poorest communities to overcome the chronic lack of decent housing and poverty. Habitat for Humanity Ethiopia (HFHE) is a branch of Habitat for Humanity international registered as a legal entity by Charities and Societies Agency of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia.

Our programmes include:

  • Decent and affordable housing provision – create a world where everyone has a decent place to live
  •  WASH Services – ensuring access to water and sanitation facilities
  • Employment opportunity/Income Generation Activities (IGA) – enhancing access for vulnerable people to opportunities for employment and self-employment.

Currently, HFHE is implementing a project entitled as “Empowerment of Vulnerable Community through Integrated Slum Area Development”. This project has four major objectives amongst  which one of the major objectives includes “empowering 100 unemployed women and ensure their financial inclusiveness”. This component includes a process from targeting, establishing, training, graduating, creating access, and ensuring that women’s financial inclusion for sustainable livelihood.

HFHE will provide a grant to implement financial inclusive economic empowerment programs for a maximum of 100 unemployed women within three years period in Addis Ababa City Administration Gullele, Lideta and Akaki sub cities.

 

Therefore, HFHE invites only interested and having proven experience partners on the ground in changing the lives of the community through sustainable livelihood program.  We are looking only for Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) or Local NGOs to partner with for implementation of the above-mentioned objectives, who will fulfil and meet the requirement stipulated below. The project will fully focus on the vulnerable, low income and hardest to reach target groups because that’s where we will have the biggest impact. We create change through local people, organizations, and structures because we want our impact to last.

Job Requirements

Basic Requirements

  • Legally established and registered under the Civil Society Agency Proclamation 1113/2019 and have fully fledged governance structure.
  • Clear vision and mission to improve the lives of marginalized/hard to reach groups through economic empowerment/livelihood programs.
  • Have proven experiences in implementing sustainable and comprehensive livelihood and economic empowerment programs in Ethiopia; particularly in Addis Ababa,
  • Have solid presence in the community particularly in Addis Ababa and preferably in Lideta, Gullele and Akaki and have community structures that support implementation on the ground.
  • Minimum of five or more years of experiences in the sector including but not limited to value chains/market linkages, village saving and loan associations, youth employment, etc.
  • Currently running similar program in the country in general and particularly in Addis Ababa. Organizations having active project/s in Addis Ababa are more eligible.
  • Solid track record and commitment of deliberate targeting of beneficiaries with disabilities and their families in the economic empowerment/livelihood sector and experiences of working with Organizations of Persons with Disabilities will be given priority.

Please submit the following:

  • A short expression of interest (not more than 3 pages) that demonstrates you fulfill the basic requirements mentioned above and why you are interested to partner with Habitat Ethiopia; list of key government and non-governmental stakeholders working with you including funding agencies; your geographic focus, number of staffing and overall profile in short.
  • Full flagged business ideas/proposal outlining the methodologies to be employed to nurture, train, liaison and follow up the target women to ensure they get access to financial services including financial literacy training , business plan development , saving schemes and financial loan access for their livelihood in a complete set of processes and steps  to graduate the women to the intended final objectives
  • Submit the following organizational documents together with the EOI and Proposal
  • Organizational structure including the higher governing body/structure.
  • A copy of renewed registration certificate for 2021.
  • Annual report submitted to a donor on similar projects
  • 2020 Audit report including management letter submitted to CSA.
  • Organizational Capacity Assessment report conducted by a potential donor or partner.

Selection process

HFHE will be reviewing the submission from technical and financial points and will approach selected organizations for detailed Pre-award Capacity assessment in the month Mid December 2021. Successful organization will be granted the funding to implement this objective of the project for  three years (2021 and 2023). Note that this call for EOI and/or RFP does not constitute a commitment on the part of HFHE nor does it commit HFHE to pay for any costs incurred in preparation and/or submission of an expression of interest or application of proposal in the future. HFHE will cancel this invite at any time if decided to implement the activities in other alternative way.
