In Ethiopia, IHI is registered at the F.D.R.E Authority for Civil Societies Organization and has been actively working closely with the Ministry of Health (MoH) and various partners to advance healthcare quality and outcomes across the nation.

Description
IHI is looking for a highly skilled and experienced Communication Specialist to join our team as a consultant. This individual will play a pivotal role in meticulously documenting IHI’s extensive 12-year journey and impact in Ethiopia. The specialist will be responsible for creating compelling multimedia content, conducting in-depth interviews, and producing a comprehensive narrative that captures the essence of IHI’s contributions, partnerships, and achievements.
Key Responsibilities
The Communication Specialist will work closely with the IHI team and other relevant stakeholders to fulfill the following responsibilities:
- Strategic Documentation: Contribute significantly to the overall documentation strategy for IHI’s 12-year journey in Ethiopia, ensuring a holistic and impactful narrative.
- Content Creation (Photography & Videography):
- Capture high-quality photographs and video footage of IHI’s activities, projects, and key moments in Ethiopia.
- Collect signed consent forms for all individuals featured in photographs and videos.
- Develop and produce engaging video content (e.g., short documentaries, testimonials, explainer videos) that effectively communicates IHI’s work and impact.
- Will include overnight travel within Ethiopia.
- Interviewing & Storytelling:
- Conduct sensitive and insightful interviews with a diverse range of stakeholders, including IHI staff, Ministry of Health officials, implementing partners, community leaders, and beneficiaries.
- Extract compelling stories, insights, and experiences that highlight the journey and impact of IHI’s initiatives.
- Transcription & Data Management:
- Accurately transcribe all recorded interviews.
- Organize and manage all collected multimedia assets (photos, videos, audio recordings, transcripts) in a systematic and accessible manner.
- Content Integration & Narrative Development:
- Integrate existing photographs and video assets provided by IHI into the new documentation to create a cohesive and comprehensive historical record.
- Draft compelling written narratives, reports, and other communication materials based on collected data, interviews, and existing documentation.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Facilitate strong working relationships with the Ministry of Health, partner organizations, and other key stakeholders to ensure smooth coordination for interviews and content gathering.
- Quality Assurance: Ensure all produced content adheres to IHI’s brand guidelines, ethical standards, and quality requirements.
About You
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in communications, Journalism, Media Studies, Public Relations, or a related field. A Master’s degree is a plus.
Experience:

- Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in communication, documentation, journalism, or content creation roles, preferably within the development or public health sector.
- Demonstrated prior experience working closely and effectively with the Ministry of Health (MoH) and other health sector projects in Ethiopia is preferred.
- Proven record of accomplishment in producing high-quality multimedia content (photography, videography, written stories/reports).
Technical Skills:

- Proficiency in professional photography and videography techniques, including lighting, composition, and editing software (e.g., Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, Lightroom, Photoshop).
- Excellent interviewing and active listening skills.
- Strong transcription abilities with attention to detail.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in English and Amharic.
- Equipment: The candidate must have their own professional-grade photography, video, and audio recording equipment necessary for high-quality content production.
