About the Opportunity

Inkomoko, in partnership with Mastercard Foundation, is implementing the Fund for Alumni Startups in Transitions (MCF FAST) program to support MCF Alumni who have or want to start ventures in East Africa. As part of this program, we are seeking experienced business mentors with a strong entrepreneurial background to provide personalized mentorship and technical support to 100 ventures at the idea and build stage.

Responsibilities

  • Through one-on-one meetings engage with venture founders to assess their businesses and identify areas of need/support.
  • Offer technical assistance in the following areas of business development: business modeling, planning, financial management, sales and marketing strategies, market research, design thinking, operational efficiency, achieving minimum viable product (MVP), inventory management, and access to markets.
  • Provide constructive feedback on business plans, MVP, pitches, and other deliverables
  • Facilitate connections to relevant industry contacts, potential investors, and business networks.
  • Occasionally participate in group training sessions or workshops as guest speakers or facilitators.

EXPECTED DELIVERABLES 

  • Develop and submit a tailored mentorship plan for each assigned venture within the first week
  • Provide biweekly progress reports including milestones achieved, challenges, and recommendations.
  • Submit a final report at the end of the mentorship period, highlighting key outcomes of the mentorship and ongoing needs.

TIMEFRAME

The mentorship period is 5 months, from October 2024 to March 2025, with an expected commitment of 10-20 hours per week.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Entrepreneurship Experience: Proven success/experience running businesses for at least + 5 years
  • Mentorship Experience: Strong background in coaching early-stage entrepreneurs.
  • Industry Expertise: Deep expertise in areas such as technology, agriculture, real estate, health, among others. Mentors will be paired with ventures in their area of expertise.
  • Commitment: Passion for entrepreneurship and a willingness to dedicate time to early stage ventures.
  • Networking Skills: Ability to connect entrepreneurs with relevant contacts, resources, and opportunities
  • Mentors should be based in East Africa: Kenya, Rwanda, Uganda, South Sudan, Ethiopia, Tanzania.
