Job Description
Job Summary:
To lead the design, launch, and scale-up of Embedded finance led B2B eCommerce platform. This role carries full P&L ownership and is responsible for strategic execution, platform performance, and operational delivery. The director will oversee merchant acquisition, product innovation, credit integration, supply chain enablement, and stakeholder engagement — positioning the platform as a leading B2B ecommerce platform and drive inclusive digital trade across Ethiopia.
Key Responsibilities
1. Strategic Leadership & Vision Translation
- Translate the company embedded finance vision into a clear, multi-phase platform strategy.
- Define a product-market roadmap as embedded finance led B2B platform, enabling MSMEs to access goods / services and credit seamlessly.
- Lead competitive positioning, sectoral prioritization, and long-term platform scalability.
2. Full P&L Ownership & Financial Performance
- Own end-to-end business unit P&L, including GMV, net revenue, credit margin, and contribution profit.
- Lead financial planning, pricing strategy, capital efficiency, and revenue growth across verticals.
- Monitor unit economics, customer lifetime value (LTV), and acquisition cost (CAC) to optimize profitability.
3. Sales, Merchant Growth & Go-to-Market Execution
- Drive merchant onboarding, activation, and repeat usage through field sales teams, cooperatives, and digital channels.
- Implement referral programs, sectoral acquisition plans, and merchant incentives.
- Collaborate with marketing on brand visibility, user acquisition, and trust-building campaigns.
4. Credit Operations & Embedded Finance Execution[MB1]
- Design and operationalize embedded credit products including BNPL, inventory financing, and working capital loans.
- Integrate credit workflows directly into purchasing behavior, order cycles, and platform journeys.
- Monitor credit health indicators (PAR, NPL, recovery rate) in collaboration with the IFS Credit and Risk teams.
5. Platform & Product Operations
- Oversee core eCommerce functionality: catalog, order processing, payment, checkout, returns.
- Lead product development to ensure scalable, self-service merchant experiences across channels.[MB2]
- Implement merchant dashboards, transaction analytics, and inventory visibility tools.
6. Supply Chain, Fulfillment & Logistics Strategy
- Develop partnerships with suppliers, wholesalers, and logistics providers to ensure on-time and complete deliveries.
- Follow inventory flow, delivery coordination, stock-outs, and returns with defined SLAs.
- Drive cost efficiency and delivery speed through route optimization and last-mile collaboration.
7. Team Leadership & Execution Culture
- Build and lead a high-performing team across platform operations, credit, merchant success, and partnerships.
- Foster a culture of ownership, agility, and disciplined execution aligned with the company core values.
- Implement clear OKRs, team scorecards, and performance tracking mechanisms.
8. Stakeholder Engagement & Ecosystem Development
- Develop and manage strategic relationships with manufacturers, wholesalers, importers, and cooperatives to ensure a robust and reliable supply-side ecosystem.
- Establish fulfillment, logistics, and distribution partnerships (e.g., 3PLs, regional transporters) to ensure scalable last-mile delivery and return flows.
- Align ecosystem players (suppliers, logistics, financiers) around platform SLAs, credit readiness, and operational coordination.
9. Data, Analytics & Continuous Optimization
- Define platform performance dashboards across GMV, retention, credit, logistics, and partner ROI.
- Leverage cohort analysis, behavioral segmentation, and real-time transaction data to refine strategy.
- Run iterative experiments (pricing, bundles, credit limits) to drive platform growth and sustainability.
About You
· Education:
- Bachelor’s in business, Technology, Finance, or related field; MBA preferred.
· Experience:
- 10+ years in digital commerce, fintech, platform operations, or supply chain ecosystems.
- At least 3–5 years with full P&L ownership in a platform or high-growth business.
- Track record of building and scaling two-sided platforms and embedded finance models.
· Skills:
- Strategic platform thinking with deep operational execution capability.
- Credit risk knowledge in trade finance, working capital, or merchant lending.
- Strong stakeholder engagement and ecosystem development capabilities.
- High data fluency; ability to build insight-driven, performance-focused teams.
