ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY & RESPONSIBILITIES

The Group Finance Policy and Special Projects Director is a senior leadership role within Inkomoko’s finance team. This position leads the development, harmonization, and enforcement of finance policies across all countries of operation and oversees strategic, cross-functional financial initiatives that support organizational growth, compliance, and sustainability.

This role serves as a strategic partner to the CFO, working closely with internal stakeholders, donors, and regulatory bodies to ensure financial excellence and alignment with Inkomoko’s mission.

The position holder can be based in any of our offices: Addis, Kigali, Nairobi, Juba or N’Djamena.

 

Key Responsibilities

1. Finance Process Design & Optimization

  • Lead the design, documentation, and continuous improvement of standardized finance processes (e.g., procure-to-pay, budgeting, reporting, internal controls).
  • Promote automation and digitalization in finance workflows across countries.
  • Ensure efficiency, scalability, and data integrity of financial operations through strong systems and processes.
  • Lead the GL ownership matrix and optimisation of the Chart of Accounts for Group financial reporting purposes.

2. Finance Policy Development & Governance

  • Lead the development, harmonization, and implementation of Inkomoko’s finance policies across countries and departments.
  • Ensure finance policies are compliant with international standards, local regulations, and donor requirements.
  • Ensure finance policies are well-communicated, understood, and consistently applied across all offices.
  • Establish a robust finance policy governance structure, including version control, training, communication, and periodic reviews.

3. Group Financial Consolidation and reporting

  • Lead the timely and accurate preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual group consolidated IFRS financial statements.
  • Develop and maintain consolidation processes, tools, and policies, ensuring alignment with IFRS and donor-specific reporting standards.
  • Ensure elimination of intercompany balances and transactions during consolidation.
  • Design and implement a group chart of accounts and reporting structures aligned with Inkomoko’s operations and strategic goals.
  • Provide regular consolidated financial reports for executive leadership and board oversight.
  • Support financial planning and analysis with group-level insights and trend analysis.
  • Coordinate with the FP&A and treasury teams for group-level cash flow and forecast planning.

4. Strategic Financial Projects

  • Lead or support major cross-functional initiatives such as the ERP implementation, financial systems upgrades and shared services models.
  • Design and lead high-impact, time-bound financial projects including country expansion,  investment readiness, and capital planning.
  • Oversee integration of financial systems across country offices to ensure consistency, efficiency, and data accuracy.
  • Collaborate with Executive Leadership on cross-cutting initiatives such as cost recovery frameworks, shared service models, or new revenue streams.

5. Internal Controls, Risk Management, & Compliance

  • Ensure all group consolidation activities comply with internal controls and external regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor accounting developments and propose process updates as needed.
  • Lead on consolidation policies for new entities or country operations.
  • Conduct finance risk assessments and recommend internal controls to safeguard Inkomoko’s assets.
  • Work closely with internal audit, legal, and external consultants to ensure compliance with financial policies and donor regulations.
  • Oversee country-level policy adaptation and support teams in implementing risk mitigation strategies.
  • Lead the annual group audit process in collaboration with external auditors.
  • Coordinate with country finance teams to ensure local audits align with group audit timelines and requirements.
  • Provide consolidated data for grant, donor, and statutory reporting.

6. Stakeholder Engagement & Organizational Alignment

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to country finance leads and program managers on financial policies and strategic initiatives.
  • Lead training and workshops to enhance financial policy literacy across the organization.
  • Prepare and present financial policy updates and project reports to the Board, donors, and other key stakeholders.
  • Promote alignment between finance policies and operational realities through ongoing engagement with People and Culture, Operations and Program teams.
  • Drive process improvements and innovation in financial operations, including automation and digitalization of financial workflows.
  • Monitor external trends and best practices in financial governance and adapt learnings for Inkomoko’s context.

7. Team Leadership and Collaboration 

  • Build and manage a high-performing consolidation and group reporting team.
  • Mentor and coach finance staff across the group to build capacity in consolidation best practices.
  • Partner with the IT team to ensure effective use of financial systems (ERP, consolidation tools).
  • Align the finance team’s work and culture with Inkomoko’s values and talent framework, emphasizing learning, inclusion, and impact.

Requirements

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • Advanced degree (MBA, MSc Finance) or CPA/ACCA designation required.
  • 15+ years of progressive leadership experience in finance, policy development, or financial strategy within a multinational Africa-focused INGO or social enterprise.
  • Deep understanding of donor compliance, financial governance, and multi-country regulatory environments.
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage complex projects across geographies.
  • Strong systems thinking, with experience implementing or improving ERP systems.
  • Excellent communication, facilitation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong commitment to inclusion, impact, and mission-driven work.
