ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY & RESPONSIBILITIES
The Director of Financial Planning and Analysis is a key leadership role responsible for delivering financial insights that drive strategic decision-making, operational effectiveness, and organizational sustainability. You will lead budgeting, forecasting, financial performance analysis, and strategic planning across Inkomoko’s countries of operation, working closely with executive leadership and departmental heads to ensure strong financial stewardship and data-driven decision-making. The position holder can be based in any of our offices: Addis, Kigali, Nairobi, Juba or N’Djamena.
Key Responsibilities
1. Organizational Budget Strategy & Management
- Lead the development and consolidation of the annual organizational budget in collaboration with country and departmental leaders.
- Design and implement budgeting tools, templates, and timelines to streamline and standardize budgeting processes across countries.
- Monitor budget execution and lead quarterly budget re forecasting and variance analysis.
- Partner with the Treasury and Grants team to align and manage individual grant budgets with the overall organisational budgets and strategy.
- Ensure strategic alignment between budgets, multi-year growth plans, and donor reporting needs.
2. Strategic Financial Planning & Forecasting
- Lead the long-term financial planning processes in alignment with Inkomoko’s mission and strategy.
- Develop rolling forecasts and scenario models to support strategic and operational decision-making.
- Partner with country and functional leads to ensure accuracy and ownership of budgets and forecasts.
3. Performance Management & Analysis
- Deliver timely and insightful monthly, quarterly, and annual financial performance reports to CFO and Senior Leadership.
- Analyze key financial trends, KPIs, and operational drivers across programs, countries, and funding streams identifying opportunities and risks.
- Translate financial results into strategic insights for CSuite and senior management, the Board, and external stakeholders.
- Create dashboards, charts, and visualizations for senior leadership to support decision-making.
4. Business Partnering and Team Development
- Serve as a trusted advisor to senior leadership, providing financial guidance on new initiatives, partnerships, and business models.
- Support grant proposal development and donor reporting with accurate financial projections and narratives.
- Collaborate with program teams to assess financial sustainability and efficiency of interventions.
- Lead and develop a high-performing FP&A team across multiple countries, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and learning.
5. Budget Systems, Tools & Reporting
- Drive continuous improvements to Inkomoko’s budgeting tools, dashboards, and financial models.
- Oversee integration between budgeting tools and accounting systems (e.g., ERPs, Excel models, BI tools).
- Generate insightful reports and visualizations to support leadership, board, and donor decision-making.
- Ensure consistency and standardization in financial processes and reporting across the organization.
6. Risk & Scenario Analysis
- Identify financial risks and opportunities and lead strategic initiatives to mitigate or capitalize on them.
- Support investment and capital allocation decisions through robust financial modeling and scenario planning.
7. Team Leadership and Culture
- Lead, mentor and grow a high performing, multi country finance team through coaching, performance management, and succession planning.
- Align the finance team’s work and culture with Inkomoko’s values and talent framework, emphasizing learning, inclusion, and impact.
Requirements
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field; CPA, CFA, or related qualifications required.
- 15+ years of progressive experience in financial planning, strategy, or related roles, preferably in Africa-focused INGOs or social enterprises.
- Demonstrated experience leading multi-country budgeting, forecasting, and reporting processes.
- Strong analytical, modeling, and presentation skills.
- Advanced proficiency in Excel, financial modeling, and data visualization tools; experience with ERP systems (e.g., NetSuite) is an advantage.
- Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and influence at senior levels.
- Excellent communication, storytelling, and stakeholder management skills.
