Job Description
MELA FOR HER is seeking five vibrant, energetic, and committed Regional Sales and Social Marketing Officers (one per location) to strengthen our sales and marketing efforts across the country. You will join a dedicated team of professionals united by a shared commitment to our cause and values. Your primary responsibility will be to design and implement MELA’s sales and marketing activities in your assigned region, ensuring that all women and girls in Ethiopia have access to our products and services.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Regional Sales and Social Marketing Officer is responsible for driving sales, expanding market reach, and increasing awareness of reusable sanitary products within his/her assigned region. The role blends commercial strategy with community-based education, advocacy, and stakeholder engagement to promote sustainable menstrual health and hygiene, especially among underserved populations. Under the direct supervision of the Sales and Marketing Officer of MELA, the position holder is expected to be responsible for:
Sales & Distribution Management
- Develop and implement regional sales strategies to meet monthly, quarterly, and annual sales targets.
- Identify and onboard new distribution channels, including distributors, wholesalers, pharmacies, retail shops, NGOs, schools, cooperatives, and women-led groups.
- Manage relationships with distributors and retail partners to ensure availability and visibility of products.
- Monitor stock levels and coordinate with the sales and social marketing and logistics head office teams to ensure timely product delivery.
- Provide technical support and training to MELA´s distributors, wholesalers, pharmacies, retail shops, NGOs, schools, cooperatives, and women-led groups.
- Collect and analyze regional sales data and trends to inform decision-making and forecasting.
Market Research & Customer Feedback
- Conduct product and market assessments and stakeholders’ mappings to identify opportunities, barriers, and perceptions related to reusable sanitary products.
- Gather and report customer feedback to help improve product design, packaging, and user experience.
- Stay updated on menstrual health trends, competitors, and relevant laws and policies of the target regions.
Social Marketing & Awareness Campaigns
- Design and conduct awareness and educational campaigns about menstrual health and MELA product usage.
- Collaborate with local stakeholders (e.g., local governments, schools, health centers, women’s associations, community leaders, NGOs) to organize outreach events.
- Coordinate community dialogue sessions, school programs, and workshops tailored to target groups.
- Leverage storytelling, testimonials, and community champions to drive behavior change.
Partnership Development
- Identify and engage potential strategic partners such as local NGOs, government bodies, and the private sector for collaboration.
- Liaise with health and education officials to integrate MELA’s products and services into school or public health programs.
Branding & Visibility
- Promote MELA’s visibility and ensure brand consistency across all regional promotional materials, events, and partnerships.
- Support digital and offline marketing efforts by creating region-specific content (photos, videos, success stories).
- Represent MELA at local bazaars, trade fairs, exhibitions, and development sector platforms.
Reporting & Coordination
- Submit regular field reports (weekly/monthly) on sales performance, outreach activities, and challenges.
- Collaborate with the MELA team to align on strategy, campaign rollout, and training needs.
- Mentor, support and supervise women’s sales agents or peer educators when related
- Undertake other duties within the general scope of the post, as assigned by the Sales and Social Marketing Officer.
About You
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
- Undergraduate degree in Marketing, Economics, or Business Management related studies.
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience in sales, marketing, or community engagement, preferably in health and hygiene-related products and services.
- A good understanding of social marketing and a passion for cause-based marketing.
- Knowledge and understanding of how the health or related sectors work will be an asset.
- Experience in building and managing highly productive relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.
- Knowledge of most common computer programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.)
- Fluency in both Amharic and the local language/s and working knowledge of English.
- Experience working in rural and peri-urban communities is highly desirable.
- Deep commitment to menstrual health, gender equality and women’s empowerment and alignment with MELA’s vision, mission and values.
- Willingness to travel within and outside the region.

MELA FOR HER is expanding its business operations and seeking a vibrant, energetic, and experienced professional to serve as Deputy Manager and Project Coordinator. You will join a dedicated team of professionals united by a shared commitment to our cause and values. Your primary responsibility will be to oversee MELA’s overall operations, ensuring that all women and girls in Ethiopia have access to our products and services. In addition, the role includes coordinating our newly approved business development project: Scaling Eco-friendly Menstrual Products in Ethiopia
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the direct supervision of the CEO of MELA, the Deputy CEO and project coordinator is expected to be responsible for:
1. General Management:
Make sure company objectives are set and followed up; translate strategic objectives into actionable plans with measurable goals for each department; provide strategic and operational management of MELA’s activities in country, ensuring high quality products and service provision and environmental and social impact; put in place excellent management systems and tools; manage and coordinate the different departments and teams; supervise the proper management of the financial and material resources of the company; ensure compliance with legal and administrative requirements; in the absence of the General Manager, represent the organization in front of public institutions, clients, partners as well as service providers; regularly report the progress of the company to the CEO and the Advisory Board.
2. Social Marketing & Sales:
Conduct market intelligence; develop and implement MELA’s sales strategy; identify, select and manage strategic customers/sponsors and establish partnerships and alliances for sales and services; identify and select proper marketing and distribution channels and partners at national, regional and local levels to ensure that our products reach all women and girls in the country; lead the search for new funding sources, sponsors and partners to support the different activities undertaken by MELA; develop marketing and communication strategies for the company to promote MELA and its products and services.
3. Project Management:
Oversee internal supervision and coordination of project activities; ensure the project meet milestones and that activities are implemented on schedule; maintain open communication and smooth collaboration with project partners and local authorities; liaise with the donor regarding project progress, and with support from partners and the MELA team, prepare timely financial and technical reports in accordance with donor requirements; lead budget planning and conduct monthly and quarterly budget follow-ups, ensuring compliance with donor and local authority regulations.
4. Perform other job-related duties as assigned by the CEO.
About You
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
- Postgraduate degree in Business Management, Economics or Marketing-related studies.
- Minimum of 5 years relevant experience in management positions, including a proven track record of managing and delivering projects and services with a strong social impact.
- Strong experience in managing and motivating multi-disciplinary production and sales teams, including volunteers.
- Relevant experience in project management, social marketing, and sales, preferably in the health, WASH, gender, or related sectors.
- Demonstrated experience in marketing, communication, and mobilizing resources will be an asset.
- Knowledge and understanding of how the health or MHM sectors work will be an asset.
- Experience in building and managing highly productive relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.
- Solid understanding of financial management.
- Knowledge of most common computer programs (word, excel, PowerPoint, outlook, etc.).
- Fluency both in English and Amharic (knowledge of other local languages is an advantage).
