Job Description
The National Democratic Institute for International Affairs (NDI) is seeking to hire an experienced Ethiopian national as Finance and Accounts Officer to its Ethiopia office. The Finance and Accounts Officer will be based in Addis Ababa and report to the Country Representative in coordination with the Finance Manager/Senior Finance Officer.

Primary Responsibilities:
- Accounting and budgeting functions.
- Recording, classifying, and examining financial transactions.
- Preparation and compiling expense and payment requests.
- Management of operating cash, journal and cheque books.
- Assist the Finance Manager/Senior Finance Officer with financial report preparation and monthly wires and reconciliations.
- Examining documents to verify conformance with NDI’s procurement and financial policies, procedures and accounting standards.
- Preparation of travel related payments and hotel and travel advance reconciliation.
- Assist to liaise with program staff to ensure that disbursed funds to hotels and other vendors as well as program related activity expenses are accurately and promptly reconciled in line with the internal policies and procedures.
- Documentation and maintenance of other finance documents.
- Assist supervisor to ensure that all transactions are in compliance with the rules and regulations of NDI donors, including USAID and NDI institutional accounting, financing and reporting rules.
- Prepare and assist in VAT claims process
- Assist and support both programmatic, internal and external audits.
- Provide support to sub-grant officer, where necessary, in managing NDI sub-grantees
- Other special tasks as assigned by the supervisor and/or Resident Country Director

About You
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required or graduate degree preferred in a related subject.
- A minimum of four (4) years of demonstrable financial and accounting experience and sound administrative skills
- Training and experience in International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS)
- Excellent professional oral and written communication skills in English.
- Ability to effectively present information, respond to queries, and develop clear and concisereports.
- Excellent and professional teamwork and ability to work well as part of a high performing team
- Knowledge and ability to use applicable information technology, including the cloud based Accounting software system to meet work needs
- High level of attention to detail in all aspects of work.
