Danish Refugee Council, one of the world’s leading humanitarian NGOs, is currently looking for a highly qualified Finance and Admin Assistant for our operations in North Area Office – Mai-Tsebri ,Tigray.

About the job

Under the supervision of the North area office, the Support Service Manager and Finance Officer, in Shire, support in day-to-day routine financial duties, and process payments for the Mai-Tsebri office. S/he will provide financial support to DRC and stakeholders, ensuring compliance with DRC’s Operational Handbook

Your main duties and responsibilities will be:

Accounting:

  • Assist in the preparation of payment requests and payments, ensuring compliance with DRC’s Operational Handbook.
  • Support in maintaining accurate and compliant financial records, both soft and hard copies, ensuring records are properly filed and labeled, and checking the completeness of financial documents.
  • Perform coding and record cash transactions in the accounting system daily basis.
  • Receive and track cash advances and settlements, ensuring that staff are compliant with regulations in place in DRC’s Operational Handbook
  • Process withholding & Income taxes, and Pension funds to the relevant Authorities.
  • Handling the petty cash for the Mai-Tsebri program and operational expenses carefully and safely.
  • Do necessary payments of invoices and suppliers based on DRC Finance systems and procedures.
  • Prepare receipt, payment, and other vouchers as required upon approval.
  • Keep office cash to its limit and make timely replenishment.
  • Handling cash using the Cash Advance system and making sure that cash advances are closed by the end of the month.
  • Handling cash using the Advance Clearance Form and ensuring all financial procedures are carefully followed.
  • Fill out all financial documents and make sure that all financial documents are properly filed and organized according to DRC procedures.
  • Work closely with the finance officer in Shire and the OIC in the Mai-Tsebri Office.
  • Make sure all financial documents are fulfilled and sent to the Shire office timely.

Administration

  • Ensure that all office systems and equipment (power, water, telephone, photocopier, fax, etc.) are in good working order.
  • Follow up on Payment of office and guest house bills.
  • Responsible for office supplies.
  • Responsible for necessary repairs & maintenance of the office and equipment promptly in coordination with the Supply chain staff in Shire.
  • Ensure the vehicle movements are per DRC fleet management policies and procedures
  • Ensure that DRC staff have Identification cards (ID) within the period of validity under the employment contract.
  • Oversee administration tasks and office management.
  • Responsible for managing the rental vehicle driver and refueling of the rental vehicle on time.
  • Perform other tasks assigned by the supervisor.
  • Responsible for recording, keeping, and releasing materials in a warehouse.
  • Working closely with the North area office Finance, Supply Chain, and HR colleagues

Experience and technical competencies:

  • Well-developed organizational and planning skills to meet deadlines with limited supervision.
  • Proven commitment to accountability.
  • Minimum of 1 year of relevant work experience, preferably with NGOs for BA and 3 years of relevant experience for Diploma holders.
  • Experience using financial software applications and/or advanced computer skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to establish effective working relations.

 EDUCATION: (include certificates, licenses, etc.)

  • Diploma, BA in accounting, Management, or relevant field from a recognized institution.

LANGUAGE: (indicate fluency level)

  • English, Tigrigna & Amharic – Proficiency in spoken and in writing

Contract length: Six Months

Contract Type: National Contract

Band: I2 – Non-Management

Designation of Duty Station: North Area Office –Mai-Tsebri,Tigray

Start date:  01 July, 2025

Salary and conditions will be in accordance with Danish Refugee Council’s Terms of Employment for National employees
