JOB POSTING – Finance Assistant

Reports to: Finance Manager

Perform other duties as assigned

Work Location: North Shewa, Amhara region, Debre Birhan, Ethiopia

Authorized to work in: Ethiopia (Eligible to work legally without work visa sponsorship)

Target Hiring Range: Local salary scale applies (Grade 4). Hiring range and benefits will be shared with applicants as part of the recruitment process. Please note that this is a national position, and salary will be paid in local currency.

Target Start Date: As soon as possible

Contract Duration: Full-time, one-year contract with possibility of renewal based on performance and availability of funding

ROLE SUMMARY:

The Finance Assistant is directly reports to the Finance Manager, ensure accurate and compliant financial processing that supports effective program delivery and strengthens transparency and accountability across Right To Play’s operations in Debre Birhan.

The Finance Assistant is expected to recommend improvements in documentation, data entry, and recordkeeping systems. There is scope to propose innovations in workflow efficiency, digital filing, and reconciliation tracking systems, in collaboration with the Finance Manager.

TECHNICAL SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

  • Knowledge and understanding of best practices in basic education programs, including technical experience in teacher training and resource and curriculum development

  • LANGUAGES: Fluency in spoken and written English and Amharic
  • Additionally: May be required frequent travel within Debre Birhan Zuriya areas (security permitting); extended or irregular hours during emergencies may also be required.

About You

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field

EXPERIENCE:

  • 3 years’ progressive experience in accounting, grant finance, or financial administration, ideally within a non-profit or donor-funded organization.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel (pivot tables, lookups, formulas).
  • Practical knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics 365 or similar financial software is highly preferred.
  • Familiarity with donor financial reporting standards (e.g., USAID, NORAD, Global Affairs Canada).
  • Strong numerical accuracy, analytical thinking, and attention to detail.
  • Fluency in spoken and written English and Amharic.
