MERSA Media Institute is a nonprofit media policy think tank. We work to help create vibrant, responsible, and independent media institutions, professional unions, and education centers through research, capacity building, and institutional support in Ethiopia.
Position Summary
Mersa Media Institute (MMI) is seeking a skilled and experienced Module Developer to create comprehensive multimedia journalism training modules. This pivotal role requires a strong background in journalism, significant experience in delivering journalism training, and expertise in curriculum development, with a keen awareness of current and emerging technologies in journalism, including AI.
The selected developer(s) will be responsible for creating three modules, each spanning 150 to 200 pages, to align with program objectives and ensure training effectiveness. The developer will play a crucial role in designing state-of-the-art modules that are informed by the latest industry trends and MMI’s training goals.
Key Responsibilities
Scope of Work
- Collaborate closely with MMI staff to understand training requirements and define learning objectives for the modules.
- Develop a comprehensive plan for designing the modules, incorporating modern journalistic practices and technological advancements.
- Develop clear, relevant, and effective training materials to ensure the content is cutting-edge and reflects the evolving media landscape.
- Create engaging content and practical learning activities to ensure a comprehensive learning experience for trainees, with a focus on practical application and technological proficiency.
- Ensure that the developed modules align with MMI’s objectives for its journalism training program in 2025.
- Provide regular progress updates to MMI staff and stakeholders, seeking feedback and input as necessary.
- Incorporate feedback from MMI during the development and review process.
- Deliver the finalized modules to MMI within the agreed-upon timeline.
- Actively provide support and guidance to MMI staff during the implementation of the new modules, including contributing to training delivery strategies and evaluation processes.
Requirements
Requirements
- Proficiency in journalism, with expertise in multimedia journalism.
- Demonstrated experience as a journalism trainer, with a proven ability to engage and educate diverse groups of learners.
- Extensive experience in curriculum development and training delivery, preferably within media or journalism fields.
- Ability to create and structure effective training materials, incorporating innovative pedagogical approaches.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with MMI personnel and stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
- Familiarity with and practical understanding of current technologies used in journalism, including but not limited to AI tools, data journalism platforms, immersive storytelling technologies, and social media analytics.
- A strong grasp of contemporary practices and trends in multimedia journalism is essential.
