Position Summary
Pharo Foundation is seeking a responsible, compassionate, and highly skilled Proctor/Nurse/Health Teacher to oversee student welfare, provide medical support, and deliver engaging health education at Pharo Homosha Girls’ Boarding School. This multifaceted role blends residential supervision, professional nursing care, and classroom instruction to foster a safe, structured, and empowering environment for adolescent girls. Whether working live-in or in rotational shifts, this staff member plays a critical role in shaping students’ physical, emotional, and intellectual well-being.
Key Responsibilities
Student Welfare & Supervision
- Supervise students during non-instructional hours, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Be available overnight to respond to health emergencies or emotional distress.
- Support students’ physical, emotional, and social development, reporting concerns to appropriate staff.
- Encourage hygiene, discipline, and respect in the dormitory setting.
Medical Care & Health Services
- Provide first aid and treat minor illnesses and injuries.
- Monitor students with chronic conditions and implement health care plans.
- Administer and manage medications in accordance with school policy.
- Escort students to nearby clinics or hospitals and maintain health documentation.
- Conduct regular health screenings and support menstrual hygiene initiatives.
Health Education & Teaching
- Develop and teach age-appropriate health education lessons focused on personal hygiene, nutrition, emotional wellness, and disease prevention.
- Use interactive and student-centered teaching methods to engage girls in learning.
- Collaborate with academic staff to reinforce health topics across the curriculum.
- Assess student understanding and provide feedback to enhance learning outcomes.
Safety & Discipline
- Conduct room checks, roll calls, and headcounts; monitor visitor access and report irregularities.
- Enforce movement policies and campus safety rules.
- Model and reinforce respectful, disciplined, and responsible behavior.
- Address minor conflicts and escalate serious cases as needed.
Communication & Recordkeeping
- Keep accurate logs of student attendance, health records, medications, and incident reports.
- Facilitate communication between students and their families within school guidelines.
- Submit regular updates and reports to the Chief of Proctor and school leadership.
Collaboration & Professional Conduct
- Work closely with fellow proctors, nurses, counselors, and educators to support student development.
- Attend staff meetings, trainings, and contribute to schoolwide enrichment programs.
- Maintain confidentiality and uphold the school’s values and professional standards.
About You
- Degree or certification in Nursing, Public Health, or Health Education.
- Teaching experience or strong background in child/adolescent instruction.
- Valid nursing license and First Aid/CPR certification.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and classroom management skills.
- Ability to lead group activities and respond effectively to medical emergencies.
- Fluency in Amharic; proficiency in English is a plus.
- Willingness to live and work in a rural boarding school setting. Female candidates are highly encouraged to apply.
