Job Description
Relief and Development for Vulnerable (RDV) is a non-governmental, non-profit making, non-political and non-religious Civil Society Organization (CSO), initiated by multidisciplinary pastoral background youth, committed to contribute to living condition of marginalized, vulnerable and fragile part of pastoral community. RDV is registered under the Ethiopian civil society charity organization number 11/10/2016. RDV mission is to ensure that pastoral communities have sustainable livelihood, access to basic services, healthy and prosperous pastoral and agro-pastoral societies in Somali region through provision of basic service, income generation and social empowerment, for all vulnerable groups (particularly women, children and disabled) living in the Somali Region of Ethiopia.
Somali region is highly vulnerable to climatic shocks and is one of the most drought-prone regions of Ethiopia, and the severe drought that began in late 2020 has continued into 2023 with the passing of five poor to failed rainy seasons. As per the recent Food Security Monitoring System (FSMS) assessment, an estimated 2.2 million people are targeted for humanitarian response in drought-affected areas (composed of severely food insecure and moderately food insecure people depending on food assistance as the main food source. RDV in partnership with International Solidarity Foundation (ISF) is planning to implement livelihood project integrated with GBV in Somali region and is actively seeking competent project coordinator for the planning, implementation and monitoring of planned activities.
Job Purpose: –
Under close supervision of Head of programs, the project coordinator will be responsible for the overall project planning and implementation in accordance with the RDV and ISF strategies.
Major Responsibility
Planning, implementation, Reporting and Follow up
· Support preparation of annual detailed implementation plans of the project.
· Conduct regular participatory monitoring visits to project operational woreda and prepare and submit monitoring/field visit report to immediate supervisor.
· Lead preparation and submission of progress and technical reports.
· Coordinate technical assessments and studies to inform program design and development.
· Coordinate monitoring, and mid-term and terminal evaluation of projects/ interventions; promote best practices and lessons learnt; work with the team to produce publication and disseminate success stories, challenges, and new opportunities to foster organizational learning.
· Ensure project interventions are implemented as per the approved plan and standards, in integration and complimentary way with other technical sectors for maximum impact.
· Advice in the preparation of budget, purchase of goods and services related to the project.
Technical Support, Supervision and networking
· Ensure Livelihood and GBV interventions are implemented as per the approved plan and standards, in integration and complimentary way with other technical sectors for maximum impact.
· Conduct regular participatory monitoring visits to project operational woreda and prepare and submit monitoring/field visit report to immediate supervisor.
· Provide technical support around agriculture livelihoods, value chain, IGAs, private sector engagement, food security including adoption of scalable and research proven technologies.
· Provide technical support to livelihood and GBV officers and lead their performance planning and evaluation.
· Promote major cross cutting themes including environment, gender, protection, disability, peace building into Agriculture sector and related programming
· Liaise and collaborate with relevant regional and zonal agriculture, and other relevant offices, financial service providers, and other key stakeholders.
Designs/planning Livelihoods and Economic Recovery
· Identify and promote livelihood and GBV activities under target area context.
· Promote and share innovative ideas for improvement of livelihood and GBV prevention activities implementation.
· Coordinates with livelihoods team in promoting Income Generating Activities (IGAs) related to Agriculture
Capacity Building
· Identify potential capacity building needs of the staff, partners, and community, and organize/ facilitate trainings and workshops on relevant Livelihoods topics.
· Support preparation of guidelines and training manuals pertinent to livelihoods recovery and GBV prevention.
· Provide capacity building training to project staff and government stakeholders
· Recruit, train and retain qualified staff for interventions of livelihoods and GBV sectors to ensure timely and quality program delivery
· Oversee the effective implementation of training and livelihood related modalities to build local level capacity.
About You
Job Requirement
Required Education, training, license, registration, and certification:
· MSc. Degree in Agriculture, Rural development, sociology and other related fields.
Technical trainings required:
· Exposed to different technical trainings on the subject area (Food Security, Livelihood, GBV, VC, IGA, business development, Marketing, Financial literacy, Project Designing/ PCM, etc)
· Ability to undertake field assessment, and facilitating trainings and workshops
· Report writing skills as per the donors and other stakeholders requirements Practical experience in planning, implementation, and management of projects related to livelihoods/smart agriculture is required.
· Knowledge and understanding of GoE Ethiopia Livelihood, GBV and agriculture related policy and programs of the country.
· Experience in Research area is a plus.
Preferred Knowledge and Qualifications:
· Practical experience on Somali region context,
· Practical experience on supporting planning and implementation of integrated livelihood improvement projects in drought affected areas is preferred.
· Knowledge and exposure of working on governments livelihoods program, resilience building abd GBV.
· Experience on using market system development, and private sectors.
· Strong and demonstrated partnership management experience.
Required Professional Experience:
· 6 years of work experience in coordinating and/or providing technical assistance on agricultural development, resilience, livelihood, and food security programs and GBV prevention, with a preference for European union funds.
