Danish Refugee Council, one of the world’s leading humanitarian NGOs, is currently looking for a highly qualified Protection and HDP Assistant Officer – Emergency response for our operations in Dollo Ado/Daka Suftu.

About the job

The Assistant Protection and HDP will support the implementation of protection and peacebuilding interventions in emergency-affected communities under the guidance of the Protection and HDP Officer and Team Leader. This includes contributing to psychosocial support (PSS), conflict sensitization, referrals, and data collection during rapid assessments. The role focuses on field-level implementation and coordination with community members and structures.

Your main duties and responsibilities will be:

Technical Responsibilities:

  • Support the Protection and HDP Officer in conducting Rapid Protection Assessments (RPA), including data collection and community engagement.
  • Assist in organizing and delivering individual and group psychosocial support (PSS) sessions.
  • Participate in the identification and verification of beneficiaries for multi-purpose cash assistance and dignity kits.
  • Help establish and operate mobile protection canters, including setting up spaces and mobilizing the community.
  • Contribute to service mapping exercises and help maintain updated referral pathways.
  • Facilitate referrals to and from relevant service providers and follow up on referred cases.
  • Support the formation and coordination of community-based peacebuilding groups and assist with awareness-raising sessions.
  • Ensure all activities follow protection principles and adhere to DRC’s SOPs and standards.
  • Support with community mobilization and sensitization activities.

Reporting and administrative responsibilities

  • Support in documenting field activities and ensuring proper filing of means of verification (MoVs).
  • Assist in compiling weekly updates and contribute to activity reporting.
  • Provide timely feedback from the field to the Protection Officer and Team

Experience and technical competencies:

  • Minimum 1 year of experience in a humanitarian or community service setting, preferably in protection or social work.
  • Diploma or bachelor’s degree in social sciences, social work, law, psychology, or related fields.
  • Experience working with communities in the Somali region is an asset.
  • Familiarity with protection principles and basic psychosocial support is desirable.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and team-working skills.
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel; Kobo skills are an advantage.

 EDUCATION: (include certificates, licenses, etc.)

  • University degree Diploma or bachelor’s degree in social sciences, social work, law, psychology, or related fields

  LANGUAGE: (indicate fluency level)

  • Excellent skills in speaking, reading, and writing English,
  • Fluency in Somali is required.
  • Basic to intermediate communication skills in Affan Oromo or Amharic are desirable
