Ethiopian Medical Journal is an official scientific wing of the Ethiopian Medical Association and has been publishing since 1962G.C.

    • Administratively to the Executive Director of EMA
    • Technically: to the Ethiopian Medical Journal Editor-in-Chief
  5. Staff Reporting to the Job Holder: None
  6. Duration: Part-time bases for Six Month with possibility of extension based on the the availability of funds and satisfactory of performance

Position Overview

The Research Officer at the Ethiopian Medical Journal plays a pivotal role in supporting editorial operations and contributes to the journal’s scientific integrity. The role involves manuscript management, coordinating the editorial processes, and providing technical and administrative support to enhance EMJ’s visibility, quality, and Impact. Additionally, this position will play a critical role in supporting the research and scientific initiatives of the Ethiopian Medical Association.

Key Performance Areas:

Key Performance Area I: Editorial and Publication Support

  • Desk screening: Review and assess incoming manuscripts for completeness and adherence to journal guidelines.
  • Facilitate communication between authors, reviewers, and editorial board members.
  • Monitored manuscript status and managed timelines for editorial decisions and production.
  • Maintain consistent communication with authors and reviewers regarding the status of manuscripts.
  • Ensure alignment of special issue themes with national and institutional health priorities.
  • Track progress and ensure timely peer review, revision, and publication of articles included in each special issue.
  • Collaborate with guest editors and contributors on timelines, content, and formatting requirements for special issues.
  • Coordinate the planning, communication, and execution of special issue publications.
  • Perform any additional tasks delegated by the Journal Manager and the Editor-in-Chief.

Key Performance Area II: Research Quality Assurance

  • Participate in internal audits and quality control for data integrity and ethical compliance.
  • Assist in reviewing the existing review guidelines and author instructions to improve manuscript clarity and rigor.

Key Performance area III: Communication and Outreach

  • Draft social media briefs for newly published articles.
  • Help coordinate outreach efforts to promote EMJ’s visibility among local and regional health professionals.

About You

Job REQUIREMENTS

Academic Qualification

  • Medical Doctor (MD) with a strong background in public health research.

Experience: 2 years of experience in research areas, having letter of recommendation from similar jobs is an asset

Technical skills

  • Skilled in manuscript editing, research ethics, and editorial management.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and time management skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.

Languages

  • Fluency in spoken and written English and Amharic.
