The Ethiopian Red Cross Society (ERCS) wants to recruit employees in the following vacant positions the details of which are mentioned below.

About the Ethiopian Red Cross Society

The Ethiopian Red Cross Society (ERCS) was established in 1935 and is one of the oldest and largest humanitarian organizations in Ethiopia. ERCS provides services to communities affected by natural and manmade disasters through the provision of emergency responses, ambulance and first aid, family reunification, essential drugs, water and sanitation, and other humanitarian services. ERCS also runs disaster risk reduction programs with the aim of creating resilience households and communities. Currently the ERCS has a structure consisting of 12 Regional Offices, 34 Zonal Branches and 131  District/Woreda Branches, 599 Woreda Red Cross Committee  and 5871 Kebele Red Cross  committees.

ERCS also runs disaster risk reduction programs relating to food security, climate change adaptation, livelihood diversification, and institutional capacity building interventions, with the aim of creating resilience households and communities. ERCS works in partnership with the Ethiopian Government, International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent (IFRC), International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), partnering National Societies, members, volunteers and the communities we serve.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • The income streams development and expansion senior expert is directly accountable to the Zonal Branch income streams development and expansion and shall have the following major functional duties and responsibilities:-
  • Prepares short-term, medium-term and long-term plans of the Income Generating Activities, fundraising and donation efforts of the zone and submits the plan for approval;
  • Implements approved Income Generating Activities (IGAs), fundraising and Donation Plan of the zonal branch.
  • Ensures the alignment of IGA and other fundraising and donation efforts of the Branch with that of the National Society Strategic plan
  • Follows up the performance of the income generating schemes of the Region and provides technical backup on sustainability of the schemes at Woreda branch offices;;
  • Implements Resource Development, Mobilization and Utilization policies, strategies and procedures the Society
  • Ensures the feasibility and follows up the performance of the Region’s income generating schemes and provides technical backup on sustainability of the schemes Woreda branch offices;
  • Closely works with Woreda branches offices in developing and expanding income streams;
  • Compiles and maintains donors data base of the Zone
  • Ensures the timely collection of membership fee from all categories
  • Follows the criteria and conditions set by ERCS National Office to propose the opening new income generating schemes, to define and standardize their core tasks
  • Monitors that IGA’s are led based on the standard IGA management manuals/procedures
  • Monitors that Branch’s IGAs, fundraising and donation activities are managed based on the 12. Resource development, mobilization and Utilization policy and strategy of the Society;
  • Ensures that IGAs fulfill their obligations on issues of national concern
  • Follows the criteria and conditions to propose closure or liquidation of income generating/resources mobilization schemes that are not well functioning as set by the ERCS National Office;
  • Conduct feasibility studies to initiate new or expand existing resource generating schemes and submit the study to the region income streams development and expansion coordination unit
  • Support the resource development and mobilization business plan preparation efforts of the zonal and woreda branch
  • Assist large scale feasibility and other resource development and mobilization related studies of the ERCS National Office
  • Conduct the marketing and promotion of income streams of the Region
  • Propose and upon approval implement donation and support solicitation activities targeting regional governments, the private sector, companies and communities in the region;
  • Proposes special fundraising events in the Region and implements upon approval; provides overall support to the ones conducted at zonal and Woreda branch office level;
  • Proposes and upon approval organizes and stages special social or resources mobilization functions or events that further enhance the Branch’s income generating opportunities;
  • Documents the contribution of the IGAs, fundraising and donation effort of the Branch to the overall RDM goal of the Society
  • Compiles and consolidates both financial and physical performance reports of the Regional Branch and submits incomes streams development and expansion coordination unit;
  • Performs other related duties and responsibilities of the Regional Branch’s income streams development and expansion as assigned by the coordinator

Job Requirements

Qualification

  • Second/First degree in Business Management, Management, Business Administration, Business Development, Marketing, Economics, Project Management and
  • 6/8 years relevant work experience.

Other Skills & Competencies

  • Training in Resource Development and Mobilization, business plan preparation, project cycle management, project proposal development, Monitoring & Evaluation.
