Job Description

Ethiopian Human Rights Commission (EHRC) is looking for qualified candidates to fill the following position.

  • REPORT TO Senior Director, Program and Partnership
  • DURATION One year contract with a possibility of extension
  • SALARY RANGE Gross monthly salary of ETB 25,756.00 – ETB 30,676.00 plus ETB 12,000.00 Housing allowance and ETB 3,300.00 Transport allowance, depending on candidates qualification, experience and earning history

Purpose of the Job:

To secure sustainable funding and partnerships for EHRC by identifying and pursuing donor opportunities, aligning donor opportunities with the Commission’s mandate, building strategic relationships, and managing the full proposal development process, ensuring alignment with EHRC’s mission and long-term financial sustainability and support its human rights mission.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Gather and share information on donor priorities, interests, and trends;
  • Maintain the resource mobilization tracker to monitor opportunities;
  • Identify and assess potential funding opportunities aligning with EHRC’s goals;
  • Identify and track upcoming funding opportunities and grant forecasts;
  • Identify potential partners, manage pre-solicitation preparations, participate in pre-design meetings, draft non-technical proposal sections, coordinate design workshops, and support field teams in collecting relevant information;
  • Write customized concept notes, project ideas, and project proposals in coordination with team /thematic leads in the organization and ensure their timely submission;
  • Responsible for end-to-end proposal management process;
  • Responsible for developing and executing a target-oriented resource mobilization plan to deliver strategy and annual work plans;
  • Adapt, customize, and align projects undertaken by the organization with the mandate of donors;
  • Identify challenges and solutions for developing successful large-scale, collaborative grant proposals;
  • Develop and maintain a pipeline of potential funding partners and initiating outreach to potential partners, managing current partners and preparing pitch proposals to meet income targets;
  • Develop and maintain strategic partnerships and communication with potential donor agency partners and related government departments, corporations, academic and other relevant agencies;
  • Develop and implement structured stewardship and communication plans to ensure donors are acknowledged in a timely manner;
  • Engage with the communications team to plan appropriate communication strategies for donors;
  • Develop a conceptual understanding and stay up to date with ongoing programmes at EHRC;
  • Ensure that appropriate systems are in place to deliver resource mobilization strategy, including an effective information management system;
  • Promote linkages to institutional funding sources;
  • Undertake independent research to identify alternative resources for the long-term sustainability of the organization;
  • Set-up and lead the resource mobilization team with clear and defined goals; Monitor and track team performance monthly; Provide performance updates to the ED and facilitate regular training of the team for skill-set enhancement;
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by supervisor

About You

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Law, Human Rights, International Relations, Development Studies, Economics, Business Administration, Communications, or other relevant fields. Master’s degree in a related field is an advantage.
  • Additional training or certification in fundraising, grant writing, or donor relations is desirable.
  • Minimum of 7 years of progressively responsible experience in resource mobilization, partnership development, or fundraising within international organizations, NGOs, or donor agencies.
  • Proven track record in securing large-scale institutional and bilateral funding.
  • Experience in proposal writing, grant management, and donor reporting.
  • Experience in building and managing partnerships with diverse stakeholders, including governments, donor agencies, corporations, and academia.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and communication skills in English; proficiency in Amharic or other local languages is an asset.
  • Strong research, analytical, and strategic thinking skills.
