Job Description
NETWORK OF ETHIOPIAN WOMEN’S ASSOCIATIONS (NEWA)
Call for Expression of Interest:
The Network of Ethiopian Women’s Association (NEWA), in partnership with the Ministry of Women and Social Affairs (MoWSA) and with the support from the International Development and Research Centre (IDRC), has embarked on a significant project titled ‘Coupling Unpaid Care and Domestic Work (UCDW) with a Local Development Agenda for an Improved Care System in Ethiopia’. This project aims to address the policy challenges related to unpaid care and domestic work, which remains a critical issue in Ethiopia, especially in terms of its contribution to the economy, the gender inequalities it disseminates, and its impact on the overall well-being of households and communities.
This project focus on two researches, implementation research on the national gender mainstreaming guideline in Ethiopia and Measuring and Valuing the contribution of Unpaid Care and Domestic Work (UCDW) in GDP. These are believed to contribute for the recognition of unpaid domestic as productive that creates a real value and contributes to economies and societies. If recognized there will be an increased investment for products and services/initiatives that reduce, and ultimately redistribute the time and burdens of UCDW. It will also contribute for the recognition of UCDW, and improved care economy or system in Ethiopia.
In order to achieve media campaign NEWA plans to engage in programs with targeted national radio stations to broadcast and amplify for clear policy advocacy and public awareness to redress the social norm/attitude of the society towards UCDW. This campaign will decisively inform policy and decision makers, and raise evidence-based awareness, fully depend on the findings of the research result and other exiting experiences and evidence.
