TOR For Food Systems Transformation Communication platform facilitator /moderator

Job Description

Background

Ethiopia has demonstrated its commitment to achieving the Sustainable Development through development of Ethiopian Food system transformation pathway. Currently Ethiopia is working on the rollout of FS transformation plan.

As part of the FS roll out, creating awareness on food system transformation is critical to the success of the implementation. Media, either public or private, including social media, can help to make the case for sustainable food systems by influencing and fostering a mindset shift in societies.

Therefore, GAIN in collaboration with the Food System and Nutrition Transformation secretariat is has conducted two rounds of awareness creation workshops for public and private media professionals, and government communications professionals. In order to keep the Food Systems Transformation conversation running, and to encourage dialogue between these stakeholders – organizers further created a communication platform on the instant messaging service Telegram, and invited participants to join the platform and discuss their stories and ideas about communicating food systems.

The purpose of this role is to manage and facilitate the Telegram networking chat aimed supporting the platform members to develop news stories and articles related to food system and fostering collaboration, sharing information.

Objective

General objective: To manage a Telegram communication platform for media and government communication professionals, prompting activity from members, enhancing collaboration and information sharing regarding food systems.

Specific objective:

  • The main objective is to encourage participants to develop relevant news and opinion stories, and share them onto the channel
  • To facilitate meaningful discussions and networking opportunities among professionals in the food systems communication field.
  • To provide timely updates on food systems-related news, resources, and best practices.
  • To create a supportive environment for members to share insights and strategies related to effective communication.

Expected outputs

  • A dynamic Telegram platform with active sharing of developed articles and media from members.
  • Support the members in development of Produces a set of media assets around food systems at least 4 stories/ news related to food system monthly
  • Regular updates and resources shared within the platform.
  • Improved communication among members as reflected in discussions and shared practices.
  • Strong collaboration between members of the group, i.e. media and government communications, as well as between communicators of different sectors
  • Periodic feedback reports highlighting member engagement and areas for improvement

Activities/Agenda

  • Facilitation: Engage with members daily, promoting discussions and ensuring relevance to food systems communication.
  • Content Management: Share relevant articles, reports, and resources on a regular basis.
  • Moderation: Monitor discussions to maintain a respectful and constructive environment, addressing any issues promptly.
  • Feedback Collection: Conduct surveys or discussions to gather member feedback on their experiences and suggestions for improvement.
  • Reporting: Provide monthly summaries of chat activity, member engagement, and key discussions

Time Commitment:

  • The coordinator is expected to actively monitor, prompt and facilitate the discussion throughout the week and spend up to 2 hours per week in planning, discussion and reporting sessions.
