Organizational overview

Organization for social service, health and Development (OSSHD) previously known by OSSA is the first and pioneer organization in fight against HIV and AIDS in Ethiopia. It was established in 1990 by religious organizations, international agencies and cooperation of the national ministry of health with the overall goal of contributing to the national effort of prevention and control of the spread of HVI/AIDS. Since 2016, OSSHD shifted to focus on the diverse introduction of programmatic areas such as SRH, Prevention of gender-based violence (GBV), Water sanitation and hygiene (WASH), Harm reduction, Maternal Neonatal and child Health (MNCH), Treatment of NTDs and livelihood.

The organization would like to hire a well experienced and competent applicant for the new Gavi Impact Grant for the following position.

Woreda level Immunization Technical Expert , Grade; 9

Job Summary

Woreda immunization technical expert base will implement his/her task under the supervision of Zonal coordinator. His /Her duty station will be woreda health office with frequent travel from woreda to PHCUs (Health centers, Health post and Vaccination site). He/She will engage on activities related with immunization programs such as surveillance of Vaccine preventable disease, Planning and monitoring REC/RED Micro-planning session, Capacity building of the health workers, Facilitating the vaccination sessions (Campaign, PIRI, Outreach, Fixed and Mobile session) and improving the cold chain system at health facility level. Finally, He /she expected to submit his /her performance/activity report to Zonal coordinator on monthly, Quarterly and Semi- annual basis.

Job Responsibility

  1. Provide technical support to the woreda health offices in planning, implementing and monitoring routine Immunization activities.
  2. Work closely with woreda health office and health facilities/PHCUs/ to improve capacity for equity focused REC/RED micro- planning and preparation of bottom-up community-based micro-plans and resource allocation.
  3. Support PHCUs under project woredas on improving data use and feedback system using the RI Tool at Target PHCU.
  4. Facilitate regular EVM self-assessments, development of improvement plan and support its implementations.
  5. Support regular delivery of static, outreach and mobile vaccination sessions in the implementation areas.
  6. Support planning, implementation and Monitoring of Mini- campaign and PIRI among high-risk community (Missed/zero dose communities).
  7. Build capacity of health centers EPI focal persons at every level to monitor and analyze records from temperature monitoring devices and take actions based on findings.
  8. Organize, support/facilitate trainings for Health Workers, HEWs, Community Volunteers, and other community members on immunization and community mobilization.
  9. Actively participate in the Woreda Technical Working Group (TWGs)
  10. Organize/conduct regular supportive supervisions to review and support the EPI activities of the health facilities.
  11. Support woreda Health office and PHCUs on strengthening community and event-based surveillance of VPD and AEFI.
  12. In collaboration with the woreda Logistic team He/she will support timely reporting of complete VRF and timely delivery of vaccine and its supplies.

Reports to: Zonal Immunization Project Officer

Salary : As per the organizational scale

Contract Period: One year with possible extension

About You

Qualification and Experience

  • MPH/Bachelor’s degree in Public Health or BSc nursing.
  • For MPH holders a minimum of 4 years and for BSC Degree holders a Minimum five (6) years’ experience in public health programming, with particular experience in the area of immunization and maternal/child health programs.

Knowledge, Skill and Ability

  • Ability to be effective in high-pressure situations, handles multiple tasks simultaneously, and set priorities and work under minimal/remote supervision.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work as part of a team, including cross-cultural teams.
  • Excellent analytical, written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to travel, for field monitoring for about 60%. of his/her time
  • Demonstrated experience working with the woreda Health office, Zonal Health office or Regional Health Bureau and involvement in technical working groups (must understand local government structures)
  • Computer skills that include Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power point
  • Ability to produce accurate data and reports
  • Fluency in English, Amharic and local languages.
